Anime REvisited: Danmachi Season One Episode Three Review!

What’s good anime fam! It’s high time for another episode review via Anime REvisited; through the first season of Danmachi! So far we’re only two episodes in, but number three picks up right where the second one left off. So without further delay, let’s get right to it.

At the beginning of the episode we see Bell telling his story about what happened to his grandfather, and why he wanted to become an adventurer. During his youth none of the other familia wanted him because he was weak, that is…until he met Hestia. Now a part of the Hestia Familia; Bell wanted to do whatever it took to protect his goddess, but little did he know, Hestia had the answer to his big gorilla problem. Thanks to Hephaestus, Hestia was able to give Bell a special knife that grows as powerful as he does. With his skill level over 600 Bell was more than powerful enough to take down the monster gorilla, and ya boi did just that!

Once the monster gorilla was defeated, everyone who saw the fight from a distance saw that Bell had killed the monster – and immediately celebrated his victory! It didn’t last long however, as Hestia passed out from exhaustion. While the culprit behind the situation appeared to be either after Hestia (or Bell) had escaped, you might’ve noticed that the identity of the one responsible is someone we know. (The dead giveaways were all there in episode 2.) After the Monster Familia event was over and everyone celebrated at the Tavern, Bell stood across the hallway upstairs wondering if Hestia was going to be okay. It was at this moment that one of the tavern girls talked to Bell about the battle, and told him that ‘she liked what she saw’. Fellas, whenever a girl tells you that, this means she like ya – and she want cha! 😉

So to cap it off; Bell man’d up and took on the massive ape-like monster with Hestia’s help, the people of the town saw his heroic deed from afar and applauded, and now Bell has a new weapon that will grow in strength along with him. With all of that in mind there are all kinds of new battles that await him on his journey to become stronger. Will Bell reach his full potential by the end of the season? Guess you’ll have to wait and find out!

That’ll do it for our third episode review, but more content and Anime REvisited is on the way! As always, stay safe during this holiday season and continue to love one another! 🙂

Anime REvisited: Danmachi Season One Episode Two Review!

Hey guys! Welcome back to another Anime REvisited episodic review of Danmachi season one! If you’re just tuning in, this will be our last Anime Revisited of 2020; as this year has been what some would call it…UGH! On that note, let’s get it on!

So flashing back to the first episode; you’ve already seen Bell, Hestia, and Ais along with Loki and her familia, now we find ourselves looking at Bell getting stronger due to his feelings for Ais (in hopes that she’ll notice his strength). Episode two kicks off with Hestia telling Bell about his improved stats and that she’ll be gone for a few days. It’s soon discovered that Hestia is attending a special banquet with other gods including Loki, Hermes, and her friend from Heaven Hephaestus. Also at the banquet was the Goddess of Beauty known as Freya; who came in between a cup-size argument between Loki and Hestia. (Let’s be real, we all know who won that battle.)

Later on Hestia talks with Hephaestus about crafting Bell a new weapon that will help him during battle while in the dungeon. Her response to that was she’ll help Hestia with her request, but it was going to cost her later on down the road. Afterwards while Bell was on his way to the special Monster Familia event, Loki and Ais were talking with Freya about a person that she appears to be looking for – who coincidentally fits the description of Bell. Hestia catches up with Bell and turns it into what she calls a date while he is looking for someone. I don’t know what it is about these types of scenes in anime; but just as everyone’s having a good time and minding their own business, some freakishly large creature bursts out and causes chaos – which is exactly what happens!

A giant white ape-like monster has its eyes set on Hestia, as Bell leads her through a crow of frightened people and through the alleyways of town. Somewhere during the chase Bell decides to attack the ape, but his knife shatters to pieces; causing him to use a light grenade to blind the beast in order to save Hestia. The two manage to escape for the moment but Bell realizes that he’s not strong enough to handle the ape – at least not right now. Doing what many anime male MC’s do before rushing into battle, he locks Hestia in a ‘safe place’ because he doesn’t want her to get hurt while he tries to figure out a way to handle the ape.

In this episode we start to see a few more characters and gods pop up, and even one character who may become a member of the Hestia familia down the road in a future episode. The next episode is pretty much as boss battle for Bell, so things will probably get good as the series goes on. This wraps up the second episode review from the first season of Danmachi, but there’s more content and updates to come! 😉

Anime REvisited: Danmachi Season One Episode One Review!

It’s now the month of December, and many of us are itching for 2020 to be over with. As for us we’re going to keep the Power of Positivity going well into the New Year! We’ve done several segments of Anime REvisited throughout the year, so why not end it with one last anime series review before 2021. For our final Anime REvisited for the year, we’ve got the first season of Danmachi (or Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) kicking off with the first episode.

Adventurer Bell and Goddess Hestia – the Bestia! XP

If you haven’t heard it by now, this is one of our favorite titles to watch; mainly because of Hestia. (But you already knew that, right?) For any fans that are just starting to watch this series, we’re going to address the fact that Danmachi is NOT an isekai! We’ve touched on this debate on one of our earlier posts, and even though the elements are there and in place, the series is not considered an isekai. So the first episode is like all other anime titles; an Introduction episode, as we find the MC of the series named Bell Cranel down on the fifth floor of the dungeon in the land of Orario. He’s running away from a Minotaur who pretty much wants to kill him; and if RPG’s or dungeon crawler video games have taught us anything, you don’t go to the fifth floor fighting monsters who are probably 10 levels higher than you if you’re at Level 1. That’s just stupid.

It was at this point that a woman by the name of Ais (whatzerface as Hestia calls her) steps in to save Bell from the Minotaur, by cutting the bastard to pieces. Bell and Ains meet face-to-face as the adventurer was covered in Minotaur blood, before the title screen opens up with Bell dashing out of the dungeon (still covered in blood might we add) on his way to cash in the loot he collected. A little later Bell makes his way home to what looked to be an abandoned church (since adventurers don’t make a lotta money), and meets his goddess and ours; Hestia. Yes, we get her outfit is a little more revealing that it needs to be (fanservice, am I right?), but her character is pretty cool once you get to know her…sort of.

After doing a stat check Hestia throws out a few signals to Bell that the girl he’s fawning over, is someone he’s already met. (She’ll never say it’s actually her.) Later on Bell is back in the dungeon fighting more monsters only because he wants to get stronger so Ais will notice him, and may even decide to join the Hestia Familia. So right now in the first episode of the series; we have the MC falling for the strongest woman in the series, while the MC’s supporting girl has feelings for the MC. ALL of this in just the first episode!

Even though the series is not an isekai; as isekai titles have their MC’s either teleported or summoned to a fantasy world due to a “special circumstance”, or through death, Danmachi takes place in an RPG-like world called Orario where adventurers have stats like HP, MP, and other stuff like that. The fantasy world that Bell and the others are in is ACTUALLY the world that they’re in! The gods themselves are all named after the Greek gods and goddesses that many of us have known and heard of; such as Zeus, Athena, Hermes, etc. Although this is only the first episode, things are going to get a little more interesting from here.

That’ll do it for our first Danmachi episode review, but there’s more fun to be had on our next post! Until then, stay safe and take care of one another! 🙂

D&A Anime Blog: Nerdz of the Decade, Anime REvisited, and More!

2020 has been a challenging year in the Anime Industry; as with every other industry in the U.S. as well as overseas. Even so, this year has also lead to many of us becoming more creative in our passion and love for the medium. Virtual anime conventions are now the norm of 2020, voice actors are now dubbing from home (with the audio quality on the same level as the studio), and new seasons of our favorite titles are readily available on our favorite streaming sites in spite of delays from the earlier months. As for us, 2020 brought about some new and creative ideas on how we can expand our reach as well as introduce new content.

During the course of the year; fans have been asking us if we were going to be doing any sort of anime podcast, and having them be guests while talking about their favorite shows. To that we said “yes!” and now we have an official podcast called Nerdz of the Decade; which will launch early 2021. Also starting that year we’ll be putting out monthly newsletters via MailChimp about what new shows and developments will be coming out of Japan, as well as what new and nerdy topics we’ll be talking about on our podcast. Finally Anime REvisited wraps up 2020 with season one of Danmachi, which kicks off tomorrow! As far as conventions are concerned we may be returning to them ‘physically’ in Spring 2021 starting with Zenkaikon; but we’ll be keeping our eyes open on any updates that say otherwise.

That’s all we’ve got for now, but as always guys n’ gals; continue to stay safe in these times and love one another! 🙂

A Founder’s Thoughts with D.J. Lewis (12/01/2020)

Well guys, we’ve finally made it to the final month of 2020. I don’t even have to say how much of a struggle the last nine months have been since this pandemic. With vaccines on the way many of us are breathing a sigh of relief, but at the same time we’re still dealing with the absolute worst of COVID. For as long as we live none of us want to hear that word anymore as soon as its over, and I agree with you 1000%.

Although Christmas is 24 days away, most of us just wanna get to the date that really matters at this point; December 31st. At 11:59pm of December 13, 2019 I’m pretty sure millions of us already had our 2020 year planned out as to what we were gonna do, and then BAM! COVID hit us in the face like Mike Tyson. Never in the 31 years that I’ve been on this planet, have I ever seen a virus put the entire world on lockdown. There have been many pandemics to hit us like H1N1 and the Bird Flu, but COVID…man. Throughout the months we’ve all been feeling it, but the ones who are feeling it the most are the healthcare workers, the doctors, and the nurses. For the men and women out there who are on the front lines, we are all keeping each and every one of you in our prayers.

For nerds like myself and A. Goldman, COVID shutdown the convention scene. Although that happened many of our favorite cons (and yours) have found digital alternative ways to keep the morale going while staying safe. Virtual conventions have been the way to go this year thanks to the creative individuals who run these cons. Even once things do get to “normal” I don’t think this will be the last time we see virtual events. (Though in my defense there’s nothing like physically being there in order to get the full con experience!) 2020 has put humanity in a position where we can do one of two things; get our ‘ish’ together and start treating each other as human beings, or remain divided because of our differences – especially politically!

This year has been many things; horrible, stressful, merciful, eye-opening, you name it! I just hope that we’ve learned something about ourselves in this time of difficulty, and start to become better people because of it.

D&A Studios: Our Podcast Name Is…

Nerdz of the Decade!!! The votes for what our podcast name on our D&A Studios Youtube channel will be, have finally come in! We also want to say that on this unusual Thanksgiving that we’re thankful for fans like you guys; for all of the love and support that you’ve given to us, and for just being awesome! On our new podcast Nerdz of the Decade; we’ll be talking about anime titles and moments from our favorite decades (90’s and early 2000’s) with a splash of current titles as well. There will even be some topics about classic gaming, Marvel, and DC.

We can’t thank you guys enough for helping us pick out our podcast name; which is set to launch the week before our 5th Anniversary in January. (We’ll keep you posted should the date change.)

Until our next post, stay safe this holiday season. 🙂

D&A Anime Blog: What Shows To Watch For In 2021!

As we get closer and closer to the end of the ‘anything-can-happen’ 2020 year, the collection of shows and anime titles that have come about can be described in a number of ways. Although there wasn’t anything that would make you jump out of your seat, there are a few titles that are worth taking a shot at. The two that come to mind for us would be Tower of God, as well as The Misfit of Demon Academy. Both of which are great titles that are well worth taking a shot at if you haven’t seen them already, and later down the line we may be doing a review on them.

With COVID-19 still running amok worldwide, several studios have been doing everything they can to release more episodes and content of their shows; and have adjusted pretty well. This year hasn’t been an easy one to say the least, but with sneak peeks and trailers coming out for shows and movies already on the horizon, anime studios and creators are already setting their sights on the 2021 season. With that in mind, here are just a couple trailers that we’ve stumbled upon…

SAO…is back!

Many of us have already seen the first season of Sword Art Online, however when it comes to the Light Novel (SAO: Progressive) the anime left a lot of details in the story out of the picture. Progressive dives deeper into the story through the POV of Asuna and Kirito, as they travel floor-by-floor defeating monsters and bosses while bringing some much needed character development – that was seemingly transparent in the original anime series. SAO: Progressive comes out 2021!

Things get serious…

If you’ve seen the first season of Cells at Work that teaches how the cells in your body handle viruses and deceases, then the second season takes a much darker turn. We’re not ones to tell how others should live their lives, but after seeing this trailer, it might change your lifestyle.

Although we don’t know too much about this series, we know that it started out as a video game on the Nintendo DS; that’s now an animated series!

The story of the Sins continues…

A lot of Sin’s fans weren’t too happy about how last season ended; especially in terms of the quality. Hopefully a redemption story is made this season as the saga of the Sins continues!

2020 has its fair share of hits and misses this season, but as we look ahead to what 2021 will bring, the overall mood and morale of the anime community from our view is filled with excitement and curiosity. We can hardly wait for the day when we can return to the nerdy sanctuaries called “Anime Conventions”, but until that day, stay safe and watch more anime! 😉

Here’s What’s Up For Thanksgiving Week!

Hey guys! Before we start we just want to give our thoughts and prayers to the Morrow family; as we discovered that Kirby Morrow who you may know as the Ocean Dub DBZ’s Goku, has passed away. He was also heard in the original Inuyasha and was set to reprise his role in Yashahime. It’s a big loss in the anime and voice acting community, but we remember him as being awesome to his friends, his fans, and his family. May he Rest in Piece.

This year has been crazy, and although many of us won’t be able to gather together this Thanksgiving (unless your family members don’t live very far from you), be sure to give em’ a call or chat with them on Zoom. As for us we’ll not only be serving our family’s great food n’ good turkey, but we’ve got some more content comin’ your way!

Take the Saiyan Prince for example…

Well, we pick our Top 5 anime villains who have done this and are now fighting for justice and peace alongside the hero whom they tried to kill!

What’s out there…?

What New / Re-Newed Shows To Watch For In 2021!

You’ve probably seen several promos for new anime titles and re-newed shows making their way to the Winter 2020/2021 season. We’ll poke around the internet to discover what will be coming to your favorite anime streaming services early next year!

Step into a New Dimension!

Our New Podcast Name Revealed!!

We’ve been wrecking our brains trying to find a good name for a podcast, and after putting out several polls on our social media pages, we may have an idea on what to call our new podcast name! Next week we do the grand unveiling of our new podcast!

That’s all we’ve got for now, see you guys next week! 🙂

A Founder’s Thoughts with D.J. Lewis (11/17/2020)!

Man, in the past 30 days a lot of stuff has happened and judging by how everyone is feeling right now; we REALLY want this year to end. Back in January after New Year’s Eve it seemed that people already planned out their whole year; as to what they were going to do, where they wanted to go, and what goals that wanted to achieve. Then BAM! Outta the blue COVID-19 happened. We knew it was bad when it ran amok in Wuhan, and now America is looking at 12 million infected, and over 250,000+ dead. Believe me, I hate talking about this as much as anyone; especially with the holidays coming up and now being told that we may not be able to physically sit next to out-of-town family this year.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure half the country is flipping 2020 off as I speak (and they have every right to) but if there’s one thing that we need more than a haircut or a night out at the club, it’s self-care. COVID has put our mental and emotional patience to the test to see how long it would take for us to crack, and while it seems like our social lives have forcibly taken a hiatus, many of us are getting creative. Take Yours Truly for example; before COVID A. Goldman and I were ready to kick off our 2020 anime convention tour at our usual cons, but since they’ve all been canned we decided to focus on our online presence. Eight months later I officially got the DJ system I’ve always wanted, and now we’re in the process of starting our own nerdy podcast!

DJ Avidd Minddset! My Pioneer XDJ-XZ

Right now we got to do our best to turn this lemon that is 2020, into the lemonade that will fuel our passions, aspirations, and goals in 2021 and beyond. This year was crazy (and here’s hoping and praying that 2021 will be a little less crazy), but hopefully we’ve learned something about our selves through this trying experience that we pray we don’t have to go through again – but should it happen, we’ll be better prepared.

If you haven’t in awhile, check on your loved ones by calling them or texting them. Zoom or chat with friends through Discord, or even look for something funny to watch on youtube. If you’re an anime fan, triple down on some new shows coming out or stream them on Netflix. As for me and A. Goldman, we’ll keep bringing you the best nerdy content that we can provide; and that’s a promise we intend to keep! 😉

Shimoneta: Japan’s History of Censorship!

There comes a time in every teenager’s life where they stumble across something that arouses their interest. Depending what kind of parents they have or how they react to the thing that they’re aroused by, it’ll cause them to do one of two things; ask them about it, or explore on their own. When it comes to anime every fan has their favorite titles that they love to indulge in, however once those fans reach a “certain age” they may have stumbled across the endless fanservice pool that is the Harem/Ecchi genre.

with these type of shows pushing the envelope every day, there’s one of them that takes the envelope and sets it on fire. We’ve seen a lot of crazy over-the-top shows, but next to Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, this is one that we’re pretty sure a large percentage of the anime community has seen.

We’re talking about Shimoneta!

That’s one way to get a ‘head’ in life…XP

This is one of those anime titles that takes the history of something and kinda drops it on its head. The whole show is centered on Japan’s strict censorship through their government, and how a group of ‘rag-tag’ degenerates pretty much give em’ the finger to their laws and restrictions about what they can and cannot say, dress, or do. (Remember how the FCC used to be 20 years ago?)

Seeing that this series takes place in 2030 (about ten years from now), Japan’s strict rules on censorship go back waaaay further than that! Article 175 or the Criminal Code of Japan, covers the censorship of pornography and how it is restricted in Japan through its sales as well as digitally. This means that if you were caught in Japan selling pornographic pictures or digital content, you’d be in jail for up to two years and have to pay a fine of 2,500,000 yen (which we think is about $24,000). This also applied to the one(s) who bought the material as well.

Japan was (and still is) no joke when it came to skin flicks and booty mags. In fact the first ever film to get the wrath of the censorship police after WWII was 1965’s Black Snow (sound familiar?). The film’s director Tetsuji Takechi and Nikkatsu distributor Satoru Murakami were indeed charged with violation of Article 175 for their film depicting prostitutes in a U.S. military base near Tokyo. The film itself was ruled out as “not obscure” in 1966, but several things happened later that threw Nikkatsu and Takechi out of the frying pan and back into the fire.

The first hentai case happened in 2004; when Yuji Suwa, Motonori Kishi, and Koichi Takada were prosecuted for producing and selling off the hentai manga anthology Misshitsu. Nine years later another case involving three people from Core Magazine happened, and those three people pleaded guilty in December of 2013. Needless to say; Japan don’t play!

How does all of this tie-in to Shimoneta? If you’re able to grasp the concept of the story (somewhat), you find various fragments and elements of Japan’s history of censorship as well as its references to its movies such as Black Snow (Blue Snow). Even though this show has its fans, it also has a little history behind its conservative nature when it comes to the lewd, the dirty, and the pornographic.

That”ll do it for our lil’ history lesson for today, and as always; love one another! 😉
