D&A Friday’s A.O.T.W. Title: The Rising of the Shield Hero!

Welcome to the first day of Summer! Spring is gone, school is out, and anime convention season will be at an all-time high. With all that in mind we’ve decided to resurrect an old favorite segment of ours from way back; D&A Friday’s Anime of the Week! To celebrate the return of this awesome segment as well as kick off the first day of Summer, we’ve got a new and recent anime title for you guys n’ gals to check out, and it’s known as The Rising of the Shield Hero!

The main cast!

Here’s the overview:

Naofumi Iwatani is an easy-going Japanese youth who happens to find himself summoned to a parallel world along with three others from parallel universes. They soon become heroes and each of them are given legendary equipment when summoned. While the three men got weapons (such as spears and swords) Naofumi got a legendary shield used as a defensive weapon – of course. Due to the betrayal of his only friend who happened to be Princess Myne, Naofumi had no choice but to become a hero on his own, but not without the help of a tanuki demi-human girl named Raphtalia as well as an egg that hatches into a bird creature girl named “Filo”. Together they work to restore the trust between the people and him, as Naofumi and his new companions become heroes of this new world, while uncovering its deepest and darkest secrets.

You can find this anime series on Crunchyroll or FunimationNow!

Until next post, stay nerdy! 🙂

D&A Friday’s: When It Comes to Anime Crime Dramas, It’s Kill or Be Killed!

Normally this would be the part where we’d say something right before we give you our overview of our pick, but we’re gonna skip that and get right to the good stuff. Cool? Alright, let’s begin.

Are you looking for an anime title that’s akin to The Sapranos or even The Godfather? Then you’re gonna love this anime title known as 91-Days! The story takes place in a town called Lawless, Illinois where Angelo Lagusta is a young man whose family was killed during a mafia dispute caused by the Vanetti Family. Now he wants to wadge war and revenge against that family, including its don, for what happened seven years after that fateful day. Thanks to a letter sent to him by a friend of his father’s, Angelo now goes under the name ‘Avilio Bruno’ in order to befriend the don’s son, Nero Vanetti, just so he can get closer to the don himself. (And extract his revenge.) The series spans over a 91-day time lapse filled with revenge, blood-shed, and betrayal. If this show has peaked your interest, then you can check it out on Crunchyroll and FunimationNow.

In just two weeks it will be time for us to head off to our final anime convention for 2017, Thy Geekdom Con! Join us as we celebrate the 28th birthday of one of D&A’s Founders, Donte’ J. Lewis, on November 4th and 5th at the Crown Plaza hotel in Claymont, DE. Also on the quick update chart; starting January 1st of 2018, we’ll be rolling out new times for our most-loved segments in order to keep up our commitment in bringing you the best reviews in anime and manga. (We’re even reviving some segments that have gone on hiatus since this past Summer.)

Also coming on January 1st is the launch of our music playlist page that is now shifting over to the name Bassandramada: Kontrol Room! As always we appreciate all the love and support that you’ve given us thus far, and we hope to continue doing what we do best while giving it our all! Stay gold, my friends! 😉

D&A Friday the 13th: Superstitions, Anime Titles & Updates!

So it’s Friday the 13th, eh? That’s cool, although we’re not that superstitious about it. (Michael Myers, Jason, or Junko Enoshima hasn’t slashed our throats in yet so that’s a good sign.) Now that we’ve gotten our scare tactics out of the way, we’ve got some great anime titles and updates for you all to check out!

If you’re looking for something haunting and scary to watch on this (supposed) unlucky day, then gaze your eyes on this anime title known as Blood+! This series was inspired by the 2000 anime film Blood: The Last Vampire, however this title only borrows a few of the allusions seen from the movie. Saya Otonashi is an ordinary anemic amnesiac school girl who’s blood possesses the power to kill an evil bat-like creature called Chiropteran. Armed with a special katana to help her fight against the threat, Saya travels the world to not only rid it of these creatures, but to gain the secrets of her past and to help recover her identity. This series is filled with action and horror fiction, so only fans who are 18 and up can check this series out. (On Crunchyroll or FunimationNow, that is!)

Now it’s update time! Although we said that the Kontrol Room will open October 23rd, we’ve decided to push it to January 1, 2018 in order to give ourselves (and our DJ/Producer) more time to create some top-notch tracks for you guys to listen to. Also if you haven’t heard the news regarding our 2018 tour, we unfortunately had to cancel three of our appearances due to LOF (Lack Of Finances). We do however have a brand new 18+ panel that we’re hoping to debut on one of our con stops known as D&A Against Humanity! It will have all the uncensored fun that you love about Cards Against Humanity (CAH), only with us behind the wheel! (And two lucky fans or ours!)

We’ve got more filler posts and more anime cons coming around the corner, so keep your eyes peeled for what’s comin’ up next on D&A Anime Blog! It’s a part of you! 😉

D&A Friday’s: Of Masterminds and Anime Conventions!

So we’ve reached the oh-so spooky month of Halloween, and already people are making their way to their nearest Halloween costume store (or Party City – Shoutouts to them)! If you’re an anime fan who loves to cosplay, then every day is Halloween, especially during anime conventions. Speaking of which we’ve got some cons for you guys to check out for the month of October coming next week, but for right now we’ve got some awesome anime titles for you to check out!

terror in resonance

If you’re looking for a mystery-thriller about the struggle of terrorism, then you’re gonna love Terror in Resonance! The story takes place in an alternate timeline of the present, where a sudden major terrorist attack has just decimated Tokyo. While the FBI are on the case to figure out who the culprit(s) might be behind the attack, they find a cryptic piece of evidence in the form of a video that has now sent Tokyo into a state of paranoia. Rumor has it that the masterminds behind this attack are two teenage boys (who shan’t be named) who thought it was a good idea to “shake up the world”. Will they get away with it? Or has the FBI found some leads that might trace the evidence they found to them? Find out on Crunchyroll and FunimationNow!

We’re happy to announce that we’re currently in production of creating some high quality music tracks for you to listen to, while you’re surfing through the blog! Although there will be 16 tracks in total for our Kontrol Room playlist, there might be some hidden ones that you can only find on our Patreon page. We’ll be working hard to bring you some locations for some anime conventions in your region, plus some updates for the birthday celebration of D&A Founder Donte’ Lewis, as he and Aaron Goldman make their way to Thy Geekdom Con the first weekend in November!

Stay tuned, my friends! 😉

Sound the Alarm! It’s Time for D&A Friday’s!!

Another hard week has passed and here we are! Back again to give you the anime and manga title goodness that you’ve been waiting all week for. It’s no secret that there’s been a lot going on with the world of anime lately; from AWA (Anime Weekend Atlanta) about to kick off to Crunchyroll’s 2017 Fall lineup (and even the premiere of No Game, No Life Zero), life for anime fans could not be any more sweeter! Now it’s time to do what we do best and give you the what’s what for what we’ve got going on, for our D&A Friday’s segment tonight! 😉

Are you looking for a military title filled with comedy, drama, and social science-fiction? Then you’re gonna want to check this series out known as Sound of the Sky! The story deals with a young girl name Kanata Sorami, as she becomes inspired to join the army after hearing a trumpeter do a rendition of “Amazing Grace”. She gets placed in the 1121st platoon stationed in the town of Seize, where she’s taken in by Lt. Filicia Heideman and Sgt. Rio Kazumiya. Even though they live in a post-apocalyptic world Kanata and the members of her platoon are going to do whatever it takes to prevent another war from breaking out. There’s more to this story than what we’ve just told you, so if you wanna know the rest, then you can stream this title on Crunchyroll and also FunimationNow for the whole story!

With October knocking on the door, it’s high time to bring you guys some anime conventions happening on this month of Halloween. Don’t forget that on the third Monday in October, we’ll be launching D&A’s official music playlist entitled Kontrol Room, with all of the songs produced by Donte’ Lewis (aka Super Dangantronixx)!

As always stick around for more fun and excitement with your two pals from D&A Anime Blog! Remember, make D&A a part of you, and we’ll make you a part of us! 🙂

D&A Friday’s: Come Join The Club! The Host Club That Is…

We’ve finally made it to the first day of the Fall season! There’s so much excitement going on between Crunchyroll’s new Fall lineup, and the recent premiere of No Game, No Life Zero from the Anime Film Festival in LA! As for us back home we’ve got your fixin’s for some Friday night anime and manga titles, including a lil’ somethin’ for the ladies. (No, it’s not a Magic Mike routine, but it is an anime title that we’re sure you’re all going to enjoy!)

Alright ladies (and a few guys – don’t worry, we’re not judging). Are you on the lookout for an awesome anime title about romance, a little bit of comedy, and possibly a reverse harem? Then look no further than the title proudly known as Ouran High School Host Club! If you know the story and are familiar with the cast, then kudos friends! If not, then check this out!

Haruhi Fujioka is a scholar student at Ouran Academy, and while trying to find a place where she can study and do her work, she comes across the Third Music Room where the academy’s host club is located. The host club consists of six male students who entertain their female “clients” with tea and sweets. Haruhi somehow knocks over an antique vase valued at $80,000 (8,000,000 Yen), and now has to pay back that debt through becoming the host club’s errand boy. (Unknown to them until later on in the series that Haruhi is actually a girl.)

Eventually Haruhi gets promoted to full-host status after the members of the club see that she’s a “natural” at being a host for the club, which she believes will help her pay down her debt much quicker. You can stream this title on Crunchyroll and of course FunimationNow!

Stick around for more filler post action and more additions to our Voice Actor Spotlight series coming up in just a bit! Next time on D&A Anime Blog! 🙂

Ghost Stories: ADV Film’s Abridged Version of an Anime Series! XP

You wanna know what’s cool about lemons? If you get enough of them and then add water and sugar, you’ve now just made yourself some homemade lemonade! The same can be said about this particular anime time, as for whatever reason (even though 90% of anime fans know what the reason is) the series did not fair well in Japan. So to find a way to break even, the Japanese licensors gave ADV Films ‘free reign’ over the plot of this anime title known simply as Ghost Stories

Originally the story is about a girl named Satsuki Miyanoshita, who moved in with her family in the hometown of her dead mother. She and her brother along with some friends and classmates at her school, stumble upon an abandoned school building directly adjacent to their current one. Bottom line; the school is haunted.

Satsuki’s mother was the one who sealed off the ghosts and demons from inside the school, as well as within her hometown. However due to urbanization of the condemned area, the ghosts have now been allowed to roam free. In order to return them from whence they came Satsuki must use a special book containing instructions on how to exorcise demons and other spirits. Does she manage to do it? You’ll have to stream the series on FunimationNow and Crunchyroll to find out!

The dub is hands-down funny! Although the series was meant to be a horror and supernatural title, it ended up becoming an abridged dark comedy instead. We would tell you what the VA’s did while dubbing this series, but we’re not ones to ruin that surprise.

And on that note, we’ll see you next post! Thanks for reading! 🙂

D&A Update: 2018 Tour and a Whole Lot More!!

If you haven’t noticed it yet, the sounds of the Fall are officially in the air! With the temps getting cooler and jackets and sweatshirts becoming more numerous, there is no doubt that we’re getting close towards the end of 2017. With that in mind we’ve got some awesome announcements to share with you regarding what’s new for D&A in 2018, but first thing’s first, let’s check out what we’ve got lined up for you guys on D&A Friday’s!

If you’re on the lookout for an awesome military-action title about conspiracy threats and secret agencies, then Night Raid 1931 will be the title for you! Set in 1931 Shanghai, China a secret agency known as “Sakurai Kikan”, have been given a mission to stop the most dangerous plots and greatest threats planted by the ‘Hydra’s Teeth’. All of the members of the secret agency have abilities that far exceed the human plane; such as telepathy, ESP, and some are even clairvoyants. Even though they have these amazing powers, will it be enough to stand up against the forces of destiny? Find out by streaming this series on FunimationNow or Crunchyroll! 🙂

Well fans, we’ve read your twitter responses to our poll question on what do you want to see more of from us, and tonight we give you our answer. We’re rolling out our 2018 anime convention tour with A. Goldman and Yours Truly heading out to nine cons in five states! Our Patreon page will be launching tomorrow afternoon/evening, so if you want to see us at more anime conventions in the coming years (as well as see exclusive Behind-the-Scenes footage of our tour in 2018), help us out and donate!

D&A Anime Tour 2018 Banner

Thanks to a sudden surplus in our finances, the 16-track music playlist known as Kontrol Room will launch October 14, 2017. Each of the tracks will feature Electronic Music genres such as Dubstep, Moombahton, House, EDM Trap, and more! We’ve also got our first fan fiction entitled Danganshima making its debut on Fanfiction.net on November 3, 2017. It will be a 10-chapter seasonal fan fiction, with new seasons coming every Fall (depending on reviews). Throwback Thursday and Ani-Sunday will make their return to the blog next year, so get ready for some nostalgia and couples in love!

That’ll about do it for now update-wise, but we’ve got more great stuff coming to the blog as well as more filler posts from our Voice Actor Spotlight segment! Until next time, stay true to yourselves, and our thoughts and prayers are with both our anime fans and their families in Texas, and Florida.

D&A Friday’s! Where Being Undead Rocks!! (Sort of…)

With the Summer now leaving our grasp and the last snowball stand closing up for the season, it’s time to get ready for Fall and hit the back-to-school grind! Even though many of us dread the thought of going back to school, anime conventions are still happening all over the U.S. and overseas every single weekend! As we do with every new month, we’ll be bringing to you some awesome new cons to check out for the month of September, but for now let’s jump into the awesome-ness that is D&A Friday’s! 🙂

If you’re on the lookout for a laugh-out-loud supernatural magical girl comedy (with a touch of harem), then you’re gonna wanna check out this anime title known as Is This a Zombie? The series is about Ayumu Aikawa, who has died at the hands of a serial killer and has been brought back as a zombie by a necromancer named Eucliwood Hellscythe. While trying to enjoy life as the undead he encounters a magical girl named Haruna, and inadvertently absorbs some of her magical powers thus transforming him into a magical girl cross-dressing zombie. (Believe us, it’s a lot more funny in an anime title than it actually sounds in real life.)

Although he’s no longer living Ayumu has a few perks to being a zombie; such as super strength, near invincibility, magic absorption from weaker sources, and a few other things. He now finds himself battling with demons known as the Megalos alongside Haruna, Hellscythe, and a vampire-ninja named Seraphim. (Which is pretty ironic for a bloodsucking creature of the night, eh? O.O) You can stream this series on both FunimationNow and Crunchyroll.

As we mentioned before, this month brings with it some new anime conventions that we’re hoping you all get the chance to go to! We’ll be listing them on September 3rd, so be sure to stop by the blog when you get the chance for the latest con updates. We’ll also be in the process of making up our 2018 tour schedule for all the different cons we plan on going to for next year, with some help from our Patreon page of course!

Speaking of which we have two brand new exclusive features that we want to add to the blog. However, we can’t do it alone, so we’re going to need your help! One of the features includes a series of 10-minute DJ mixes featuring a wide variety of EDM genres that you’d hear at an anime convention’s rave party. The name of that feature, is RAVE10. The mixes will be produced by Groundzkontrol (Yours Truly) and will be posted on our forthcoming SoundCloud account.

The second feature is our podcasts! Fans have asked us if we’ve ever done any podcasts for the blog, to that we say “no”, but now we’re considering the idea. We would love to have some of our fans to be on our podcasts, as we talk about any and everything that has to do with anime; from the industry to its voice actors and what shows are trending. (Heck, we’ll even do a ‘live’ Cons Near U segment if the podcasts get big enough!)

Stay tune for more updates as well as Saturday nigh Toonami, which is now a half an hour longer! (11pm-4am!) Remember, make D&A a part of you, and we’ll make you a part of us! 🙂

D&A Friday’s: Where Anime and Alternate Reality Are One!

Welcome back fans! If you’ve missed us last Friday, that just means we were at SaikouCon in Allentown, PA! It was indeed a blast and there will be some video footage of the experience coming soon to our Youtube page. As always we do our best to bring you some awesome anime titles this side of the internet, so without further delay, here’s what we’ve got for you today! 😉

If you’re an anime fan who’s on the lookout for a supernatural comedy-drama, then Charlotte might be the answer you’ve been looking for. Taking place within an alternate reality, a comet called “Charlotte” passes by the earth every 75 years. during its travel it drops dust that soon becomes airborne, as the pre-adolescents who breathe in the comet’s particles suddenly gain supernatural abilities.

Yuu Otosaka just happens to be one of the pre-adolescent children who inhale the dust particles of the comet, and now possesses the ability to possess other people for a short time. He’s eventually found by Noa Tomori, and is thus transferred to Hoshinoumi Academy where she is the president of the school’s student council. The members of the student council also have gained supernatural abilities aside from just Yuu and Noa. Their overall mission is to protect others who possess supernatural powers from organizations that want to use and exploit them for their own personal gain. However, a mission of this caliber doesn’t come without a few heartaches and sacrifices along the way. The series itself balances out between comedic/corny, and serious/tragic, so if you’re looking for an anime title that’s of this nature, then by-all-means check out Charlotte! 🙂

We’re hoping to launch our Patreon page between September and November, as all of your donations will help us pay the operational costs of the blog, and also keep its unique features going! If things go well with our Patreon page we’ll be able to offer you guys (the fans) the following:

  • More chances to see us at conventions (We’ll be able to travel more!)
  • Official D&A Anime Blog merchandise (Not just T-shirts!)
  • Mobile Podcasts (We’d love to do these with some of the Voice Actors!)
  • Exclusive DJ mixes (From Groundzkontrol, of course!)
  • More Original Content! (Convention Videos, Panel Videos!)

This is going to be a major step for us as we get ready to celebrate our upcoming two year anniversary on January 11, 2018! We thank each and every one of our fans as well as the voice actors, FUNimation, Crunchyroll, and all of the other anime distribution companies for giving us some awesome titles, and continued support for our blog!

Keep making D&A a part of you, and we’ll keep making you a part of us! 🙂
