D&A’s Crunchyroll Spotlight: Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls!

So here we are on the last week of June, and once again we’ve got another title from our good friends at Crunchyroll for you to check out! If you’re the kind of fan that likes samurai/ninja anime titles (and we’re sure most of you do), then you might like the one we have for you tonight. If you’ve seen the first Basilisk anime, then this is the follow-up to that known as Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls.

ninjamaxresdefault

So here’s the overview; in the Keicho era, the battle for succession manifested into a gruesome battle of ninja arts between the Koga and Iga clans. In a rain of flower pedals a man and woman who decided to live for love were separated once again, but not before Hattori Hanzo’s adopted son, Kyouhachirou, gave them live again before leaving two mementos behind. Koga Hachirou and Iga Hibiki are children born with a destiny of their own; with the former having his father’s eyes, while the latter having her own mother’s. Now that it’s the Kan’ei Era and the land is at peace, ninjas are disappearing into the shadows due to the reason that they are deemed ‘unnecessary’. Both the Koga and Iga clans ask a favor of Hachirou and Hibiki, in hopes of reinforcing their foundations.

You can catch this little number on Crunchyroll or FunimationNow! That’s all for now but there’s more filler posts coming up! ๐Ÿ˜‰

D&A’s Crunchyroll Spotlight: Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card!

Before you know it, we’ll be looking at the month of May in the rear-view mirror and embracing the month of June. (The half-way point of 2018!) It will also mark our two-and-a-half year anniversary of when we first launched D&A Anime Blog. It’s been a heck of a work week for us, but we’ve got another anime title from Crunchyroll’s lineup that you guys and gals, have got to check out! This title is marked as a brand new chapter from an old favorite. We’re talking about the anime title Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card!

cardcaptor-sakura-clear-card-hen-5-600x300

Ready for the overview? Basically Clear Card is the follow-up to the 1998 original title; Cardcaptor Sakura. Sakura Kinomoto is now in middle school along with her friends, but after having a prophetic dream about a cloaked figure, the Sakura Cards turn blank and are rendered useless. Now Sakura is on a mission to collect the clear cards along with her friends and guardian/protectors, Cerberus and Yue. This time around Sakura has a much stronger mystical key as well as an incantation.

We wouldn’t call this a reboot, but more of a long-awaited sequel in the making. A few of the original voice actors return for the follow-up, as you can hear them as characters (both old and new) right on Crunchyroll or FunimationNow! Don’t miss the exciting sequel to an old classic!

That’s all for now, but there’s more on the way!

Stay gold! ๐Ÿ˜‰

D&A’s Crunchyroll Spotlight: Katana Maidens!

Here we are on the second day of the week, and we’re pretty sure that many of you may have had a chance to catch up on some anime titles you haven’t seen yet. (Hopefully.) Even though there are so many titles based off of their manga counterparts, there are a few that are completely original. This title of course – being one of them. Tonight’s Crunchyroll spotlight is on the title known as Katana Maidens.

news_SYOAHCoi6ZcKINs

Here’s the overview; the story is about a group of sword-wielding shrine maidens who go to school as well as work on their extermination skills. They serve as a special unit in the police force that deals with the Aradama, mysterious and hostile creatures that the shrine maidens have to defeat. The government sets up five schools for the girls to attend, and while they live ordinary lives as well as face the threat of the ‘aradama’, the five schools send their best ‘Toji’ (sword-wielding shrine maidens) to compete in a tournament during the Spring.

Original anime that’s not based off it’s manga counterpart is hard to come by, however there are some great titles out there that just need a little love. At 24 episodes Katana Maidens is one of those titles that may not seem like much on a plot-wise perspective, but it does have some pretty good sword fighting scenes, and its characters do indeed balance a social life while protecting people from supernatural creatures. And if that’s not impressive, then we don’t know what is! Check out Katana Maidens on Crunchyroll (or FunimationNow) if you love sword fights and supernatural creatures!

There’s more posts to come, so stay tuned! ๐Ÿ™‚

D&A’s Crunchyroll Spotlight: Record of Grancrest War!

Guess who? Yeah, it’s the guys who own this anime blog. Hopefully your week hasn’t been to exhausting, cuz’ tomorrow is Friday (thank God)! So right on the books tonight is another anime title spotlight from our good friends at Crunchyroll. If you’re looking for a good fantasy/action title to watch that’s a bit like the Fate series (or something akin to that effect), then the title we’re shining the spotlight on, is Record of Grancrest War.

Record-Grancrest-War-Smartphone_03-05-18

Here’s the overview; the continent of Atlatan is threatened by demons from another dimension called Chaos, as the nobility fought back using crests that gave them superhuman powers. However the corruption of power soon got to their heads, as the nobles began fighting against each other to gain more crests as opposed to banning together to fight the demons. The series focuses on two characters; a mage named Siluca Meletes, and a wondering knight named Theo Cornaro. The two of them join forces along with their allies to end the war between the nobility, as well as destroy Chaos.

Knights, battles, and magic are what you’ll be in for with a title like this. There are 24 episodes total (which is about two 12-episode seasons), so it’s lengthy enough to give you some good plot and great battles. However, we’ll leave that decision to you.

So if this anime title is right up your alley, you can check it out on Crunchyroll! Until next post, stay gold my friends! ๐Ÿ˜‰

ancientmaxresdefault

Ready for the overview? Here it is! Chise Hatori is a 15-year old Japanese girl who was sold for five million pounds (England currency) at an auction to a rather tall gentleman. She was abandoned at a young age and ridiculed by her peers, but now she finds herself on her way to an unknown fate by the gentleman who bought her. It is soon revealed that the man is actually Elias Ainsworth – a magus. After a little bit of teleportation magic both Chise and the magus find themselves at his cottage in rural England. At first she didn’t know what to expect the moment she was sold to highest bidder at an auction, but Chise is now under the care of the magus Ainsworth and living in his beautiful cottage as an apprentice, and soon to be bride.

This title has a good chunk of several anime genres in it; Slice-of-Life, Supernatural, Mystery, and Shounen. Whatever your pick, if this title is what you’re looking for, then you can check it out on Crunchyroll as well as FunimationNow!

That will do it for us on this filler post, but there’s more to come tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚

D&A’s Crunchyroll Spotlight: Magical Girl Ore!

Whew, today’s work day was a killer, but we’re glad to be alive to bring you another installment of our Crunchyroll Spotlight filler posts! If you’re a 90’s kid, then some time in your life you probably met a magical girl by the name of Sailor Moon, right? If the answer’s yes then you might be in for a surprise when it comes to a series like this. Tonight our Crunchyroll title is the magical girl comedy; Magical Girl Ore!

magicalgirlore

So here’s the deal; Saki Uno is an unpopular idol and high school student who discovers that her mother was once a “Magical Girl”, but passed on the tradition due to problems with her back. With some help from a Yazuka-like character named Kokoro, Saki can now transform into “Magical Girl Ore”, however there’s just one small problem; her magical girl form is that of a tall muscular man in a magical girl outfit. As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough; Saki has to fight cute-faced demons who threaten to kidnap her crush, Mohiro, who is now attracted to Saki’s “manly” form. Not only that but her idol partner, Sakuyo, is attracted to her normal female civilian form.

This series takes everything you know about the magical girl genre, and drops that baby on its head. Although being a magical girl is not all fun and games (in fact there’s a dark side to it), they mix in some comedic parts in the story that make it worth while to take a gander at. (Even if you’re not a fan of magical girl anime.) The dub for this series is not out yet, but you can stream the sub on Crunchyroll if you wanna check it out!

That’s it for now, but there’s more filler posts coming up! ๐Ÿ™‚

newgamemaxresdefault

If you liked the anime title known as Gamers, then we’ve got another title that’s similar to it! New Game! is an anime series about a high school graduate named Aoda Suzukaze, who has become inspired by the character designs of a certain video game, and begins working as a character designer for the game’s developer; Eagle Jump. While designing characters for the games, Aoda comes to know her colleagues as well as the other staff members of the company. The series pretty much follows Aoda and her colleagues as they develop and work on various characters for various types of games.

Overlord-Season-2-English-Dub-Announced-For-Anime-By-Funimation-Number-Of-Episodes-Confirmed-In-2018

Our Crunchyroll Spotlight title we’ve got for you is none other than a fantasy anime called Overlord! Basically the plot goes like this; a DMMORPG (Dive Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) called Yggdrasil was released in the year 2126. It is the most advanced DMMORPG of its kind due to the fact that it has heightened the interactive factor between the player, and the game. After a 12-year run the game servers are about to be shut down, as one of the members of the game’s strongest guilds; Ainz Ooal Gown, known by the character Momonga, continues to stay logged in until the day the game servers shut down for good. (Sadden by the fact that all of his friends have real lives and decided to quit the game.)

Upon the day of the shut-down Momonga discovers that the world of Yggdrasil, has been recreated as a reality of its own. All of its NPC’s have been brought to life as Momonga finds himself trapped in his character avatar. Since he can’t log out or do any other functions as a human being, Momonga sets off to find out if other players are trapped in this world along with him; taking on his former guild name.

So far there are currently two seasons of this anime title on Crunchyroll as well as FunimationNow. Although its under the fantasy genre, there’s a little bit of everything; except the ‘child-safety switch’. Should you get the chance you should check this anime title out if you’re a fan of MMORPG’s and fantasy. That’s all we’ve got for now but stick around, cuz’ there’s more posts coming up! ๐Ÿ˜‰

D&A’s Crunchyroll Spotlight: Darling in the FRANXX!

Hey there guys n’ gals! We’re back with another filler post that highlights new anime title releases from Crunchyroll, and boy do we have a good one. For those of you who are fans of both the Gundam and Evangelion series, this title may be right up your alley. For our Crunchyroll spotlight we’re highlighting the anime title, Darling in the FRANXX

b78ad8031a4b76a04e7762c550ac4140

Here’s the synopsis:

Taking place in a post-apocalyptic future where humanity becomes an endangered species by giant beasts called Klaxosaurs, the remaining members of the human race create a military city named Plantation, where children are partnered up in boy-girl pairs named Parasites and pilot giant mecha called Franxx (hence the name).

One of the boys, Hiro, is viewed as a prodigy, however after failing one of his tests, the emotional stress that befalls him, leaves him unable to pilot a Franxx. That is…until he meets an infamous human Franxx pilot with Klaxosaur blood named Zero Two, who is a member of an infamous race of humans with said blood. (Don’t forget about the red horns on her head.) After her last partner was killed in a Klaxosaur attack, Zero Two convinces Hiro to become her partner (darling).

The series itself (as A. Goldman would put it) kind of has that Evangelion-esque feel to it, mixed with some elements from the Gundam series. However the plot itself is totally different, as Zero Two’s character is a bit mysterious to say the least. If you’re looking for some new sci-fi/mecha anime to check out for 2018, then head on over to Crunchyroll’s streaming website and check out Darling in the FRANXX! ๐Ÿ™‚
