Filler Post: D&A’s Top 5 Anime Super Powers!

Remember back when you were a kid growing up, and you saw your first ever superhero movie with your family (or friends)? Well now that you’re somewhere between 20-something and 40-something, and are well versed in the world of super powers, you now wonder to yourself what’s one of the best super powers to have. The final decision on what power(s) you wish you could have is completely up to you, but we do have a Top 5 list of the most wanted anime super powers (or special abilities) for your own enjoyment! ๐Ÿ™‚

Bulging_Power_Super_Saiyan_Goku

Number 5 – The Ability to go Super Saiyan!

C’mon, what kid do you know in this day and age doesn’t want to have the ability to go Super Saiyan? No one, not even you! Sure, it would be awesome to blast your bullies to smithereens using a Kamehameha Wave or Final Flash, but this kind of power is also the most destructive – as with every battle Goku has with his opponents (even Vegeta). The best advice we can give you for this power would be to use it only when you really need to; such as a worldwide attack from Majin Buu, Broly, or intergalactic space pirates. (Or WWIII, God forbid. >.<)

Sasuke's_Sharingan

Number 4 – The Sharingan!

We know, we know! You’ve heard this name a thousand times already, but the next generation of Naruto fans would love to have this as their super power (special ability). If you ever get in a fight with someone bigger or faster than you, having this power around might help, as you’ll be able to see movements in slow motion which will enhance your reaction time. If you want to unleash its full potential however, you’re gonna need to do a lot of training – unless your last name is Uchiha! XP

1T05VpD

Number 3 – Power of the Titans!

The Power of the Titans is to the subjects of Ymir, as the Great Ape form is to saiyans. That being said, if you’re an AOT fan, then you’d kill to have this kind of power. (But seriously, don’t kill anybody – except the titans that ate your mom and dad. See what we did there? XP.) While in titan mode you’ll gain regeneration abilities and your physical prowess will increase ten-fold, however if you use this form too much you’ll wear out the control you have over your titan state, and possibly revert to a mindless titan if you’re not careful.

tAG_92206-e1418422883598

Number 2 – Advanced Levels of Magic!

If you watch a lot of Magical Girl anime or any title that has wizards and sorcerers in it, then you know exactly what we’re talking about!

Saitama

And finally Number 1 – The Ability to Knock Out Foes with Just One Punch!

Saitama said “Knock you out!” XP

Well, that will do it for our Top 5 list of anime super powers. Now you all can figure out which one(s) you want or don’t want between each other, cuz’ when it’s all said and done, the final call is up to you. Stay super my friends! ๐Ÿ™‚

Funny or Cruel: Slapstick Comedy in Anime!

If you’re an anime fan, then we’re pretty sure you’ve seen this type of comedy before; mostly being within the confines of the ecchi/harem section of the anime spectrum. For those who don’t know what Slapstick Comedy is, don’t worry – we’re more than happy to tell you. Slapstick Comedy is a type of broad comedy with exaggerated physical activity, that exceeds the boundaries that many would find in normal physical comedy. Classic examples of this would be the old school pie-in-the-face, or for us otaku, a male pervert getting launched sky high by a woman’s fist (which usually happens when he’s peeping at her through the girl’s shower window and is suddenly caught by an ‘unknown variable’).

Slapstick comedy has a bit of a history. Before it was used in many of the ecchi and harem anime genres it could originally be found in (get this) Shakespeare’s comedies. Yes guys n’ gals, Shakespeare used it waaaay before we did.

Shakespeare

Around the 19th and 20th century, Slapstick comedy was used in many of the old school cartoons and television shows that many of us may, and may not know about. Examples included good ol’ Tom & Jerry, Tex Avery, The Three Stooges (or Ed, Edd, n’ Eddy if you’re a millennial), Looney Tunes, Monty Python and more! So now you’re probably wondering to yourself, ‘How is modern Slapstick Comedy used in Anime today?’ Well the answer’s pretty much the same way it was used in days of old, however there’s much debate over how much physical violence is used in anime-style Slapstick comedy.

It’s use in anime in general goes back to our previous post about Anime Fanservice, and whether or not it was a blessing or a curse. Our answer to this is the same as it was on that post; the usage will depend on the setting or place, how well it’s balanced within the story’s plot, and which character’s are involved.

orhsl74uxgtdvflxwg7utstpuecgppe6_hq

To this very day Slapstick comedy can be found just about anywhere; from movie and film parodies to cartoons and anime. So now the question remains…is it funny or cruel? The final answer to that question will be completely up to the viewer themselves. Balance, placement, and who’s involved all play a part in whether or not you think this type of comedy is LOL funny, or downright cruel.

The choice, is yours! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Quick Question…What’s Anime?

Whaaaa?! You’ve been following us for over 19 months and you don’t know what anime is?! Relax, we’re just kidding. In all honesty, if you’re an old school or new school anime fan, then this may come as a shock to you – depending on what your reaction to this question might be. The anime fanbase might not be as large any famous musician that you know (or don’t know) of, but there are new fans being exposed to its awesomeness every single day.

In spite of this there’s still a percentage of the population who don’t know what anime, or if you’re from the old school; Japanimation, really is and what it’s about. (That population might be your mother or grandmother’s generation.) We’re not going to turn this filler post into a full-blown lecture, but we are gonna give you the meat n’ potatoes of what this awesome medium called ‘Anime’ is all about! ๐Ÿ˜‰

First, let’s define what ‘Anime’ actually is! It is a Japanese term for either hand-drawn or computer animation created in Japan, of course the word “Anime” is abbreviated from the word “Animation”. Anime from Japan is characterized by its colorful graphics, fantasy-like stories and plots, and vibrant characters. You’d have to go back to the 1960’s for the character art style, where many of the works from that time were created by Osamu Tezuka. 50+ years later it has grown into the global medium that it is today; from television broadcasts to podcasts and even video sharing/streaming websites! Anime also has various genres that spread to all ages, although a majority of them are directed towards teens and adults. (Basically Millennials and Gen-Z.)

Modern anime now takes on a more realistic approach, as many of the titles now have settings based on actual places in Japan, North America, and various other third world countries. It’s a diverse art form that uses story-telling with cinematography, graphic art, and various other imaginative techniques. Anime can also serve as an escape mechanism from reality, by immersing the viewer into a sense of fictional fantasy completely separated from the outside world.

Which may explain why members of the anime community find it to be a two-dimensional aphrodisiac from the trials and troubles of life.

If you get the chance to explain what anime is to someone who doesn’t know about it and get a response like, ‘All anime is for kids!’ then they’re wrong! Most of the genres that are out here today are geared towards teen girls, teen boys, and adult men and women (even both in some cases). Like genres every art style found in anime is different, and can range from a hand-drawn cartoon style like Shin-Chan, to something a bit more realistic like Ghost in the Shell or Hellsing Ultimate.

The source of all anime can be found in its production companies. There’s about 430 companies that produce/create a lot of the anime that is distributed in North America today. Before that happens however, the companies have to get a license for said shows in order to legally distribute them through home video, and over the internet.

In the last five decades or so, anime has done so much for countries on a global scale. It has given rise to anime clubs, anime conventions, cosplay, and various other elements of the otaku lifestyle. There have even been moments where anime has saved lives and prevented people from committing suicide or feel lonely, and for that it does serve some purpose in our lives. Anime may not be for everybody, but for the people who want to know more about it, don’t shun them away – tell em’! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hey anime fans! We’re officially in the fourth and final quarter of 2017, and for us it’s been an exciting ride! We’ve only got one more convention to go before we wrap up our tour this year, and as always we just want to thank our fans, FUNimation, Crunchyroll, and pretty much everyone who’s been working hard on all of the new shows that are streaming online this season.

Okay, now it’s time for some updates! Both A. Goldman and I (Donte’ Lewis) have gone over our tour schedule for next year, and even though we’ve posted these conventions on our social media pages, AnimeNEXT, Katsucon, and SaikouCon 2018 are the conventions that we unfortunately have to skip due to financial reasons. We’ll be looking into a replacement con that we can get to in the meantime to help shorten the tour gap between conventions.

Blackkjackk Bassline (FullLogo1)

The Kontrol Room music playlist for the blog will now be produced by Blackkjackk Bassline, the first original DJ/Producer name that D&A’s Donte’ Lewis has chosen as his moniker. Music genres of the playlist will consist of Chiptune and EDM; such as Dubstep, Trap, House, Moombahton, Future Bass, Drum n’ Bass, and more! We now have the equipment needed to make said music, so get ready to turn up come October 23rd for the official grand opening!

Filler Post: The Top 5 Hair Colors You’ll See In (Almost) Every Anime!

If you’re an anime fan, either old school or new school, then you’ve probably seen a lot of characters (male and female) who don’t have the same hair color that you would see in the real world. The common colors of hair that were used to seeing is brown, black, grey (if you’re up in age), red (for redheads) and blonde. Anime is not bound to just those particular colors, in fact a large percentage of your favorite anime characters have different colors of hair to either match their overall personality, or to make them look stylish. Tonight we’re going to give you guys our Top 5 most popular hair colors that you’ll find in about 95% of the anime that you watch! As for which color is your favorite? Well, we’ll leave that up to you.

1901180_1313768949570.06res_500_281

Number 5: Silver

When it comes to silver colored hair, many of us can go as far back as Inuyasha. Silver in some cases represents the color of elegance, grace, and wealth. If you take a look at titles like Rosario + Vampire and Bleach, then you’ll notice that silver-haired characters carry themselves in an elegant way, and is believed to draw out negative energies and replace them with positive ones. It’s also noted that silver haired anime characters (or live individuals) are great public speakers.

Number 4: Red

One of the most intense and emotion-fueled hair colors you’ll find in anime. Red can represent negative emotions such as rage, danger, wrath, aggression, and malice. However it can also represent courage, leadership, strength, passion, and romance. Red is also one of the most passionate and attention-grabbing colors in the color wheel, which may explain why so many anime fans (guys and girls) are attracted to red-haired anime characters.

Hatsune3

Number 3: Blue

Ah, the most calming of colors found in a lot of your favorite anime titles. Blue represents a sense of calmness, inspiration, wisdom, and intelligence. This color can either be steadfast and strong, or it can be light and friendly depending on the shade. Darker shades bring about a sense of coldness and an uncaring spirit, while brilliant shades bring about a dramatic effect of exhilaration. Characters with lighter shades of blue, or light blue like Hatsune Miku (shown above), show a sense of trustworthiness and honesty.

Ouka_face

Number 2: Green

This color represents a sense of rebirth, freshness, greed, energy, and growth. It can also bring us a sense of hope, good health, and adventure. There are some anime characters in certain titles whose personalities may be associated with this particular hair color. (As for who they might be, we’ll leave that up to you to decide.) Darker shades of green represent wealth, greed, and ambition, while yellowish-green shades can give off a sickly and jealous vibe. Green can also be associated with the beginning of Spring, as the winter snow melts to bring about a new beginning of life that can be found in this color.

maxresdefaultjunko

Number 1: Pink

This is probably (in our opinion) the most popular hair color you’ll find in various anime titles! What is it about this color that makes it so popular? Perhaps pink is the color for the universal love that we have for one another, and that it represents “sugar, spice, and everything nice.” Hot pink can bring about playfulness while its lighter shade brings about communicative tenderness. It’s too bad we can’t say the same for Junko, as her pink brings nothing but death and despair to anyone that crosses her path!

There you have it, folks! Although there are a lot more hair colors in the anime world, these are just some of the ones that you’ll run into while streaming your favorites on Crunchyroll or FunimationNow. If you’re felling kind of dull and you want to put a little excitement in your life, slap your favorite hair dye on your hair and paint the town whatever color you like! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Miscellany Monday: The Future is Now!

Wow! It’s hard to believe that we’re already a few days into the Fall equinox, and yet it still feels like the heat of the Summer just doesn’t wanna leave yet. While we wait for the temps to cool down just a little bit, we here at D&A Anime Blog are getting ready for some new things that are soon coming to the forefront! Before we jump on that let’s jump on some lesser-known anime titles that we searched high and low for, in order to bring them right here to you guys (the fans)!

Stellvia-of-the-Universe-image-stellvia-of-the-universe-36245070-1280-820

If you’re looking for a coming-of-age tale set in the 23rd century, then check out this anime title known as Stellvia of the Universe! The timeline of this series takes place in 2356 A.D. just 189 years after the Earth suffered an apocalyptic blow, that wiped out 99% of the entire population. The remaining population built massive space stations known as “foundations” in order to keep track of all the space activities that would be occur. Shima Katase has just finished the Space Academy’s Entrance Exams, and is now on her way to the Earth-like foundation known as Stellvia (the titicular foundation). Her goal in life is to explore the galaxy while doing everything she can to prevent Stellvia from suffering the same fate as Earth did, 189 years ago. You can find and stream this series on Crunchyroll and FunimationNow.

Three weeks from today, the Kontrol Room will be open! The music playlist page will contain electronic music genres such as Dubstep, Drum n’ Bass, Trap, Chiptune, Moombahton, and so much more! All of the music for this 16-track playlist will be produced by the blog’s own Donte’ J. Lewis (aka Super Dangantronixx).

That will do it for us update-wise. We’ve got more filler posts and additions to our Voice Actor Spotlight series coming up soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

D&A Friday’s: Come Join The Club! The Host Club That Is…

We’ve finally made it to the first day of the Fall season! There’s so much excitement going on between Crunchyroll’s new Fall lineup, and the recent premiere of No Game, No Life Zero from the Anime Film Festival in LA! As for us back home we’ve got your fixin’s for some Friday night anime and manga titles, including a lil’ somethin’ for the ladies. (No, it’s not a Magic Mike routine, but it is an anime title that we’re sure you’re all going to enjoy!)

4043

Alright ladies (and a few guys – don’t worry, we’re not judging). Are you on the lookout for an awesome anime title about romance, a little bit of comedy, and possibly a reverse harem? Then look no further than the title proudly known as Ouran High School Host Club! If you know the story and are familiar with the cast, then kudos friends! If not, then check this out!

Haruhi Fujioka is a scholar student at Ouran Academy, and while trying to find a place where she can study and do her work, she comes across the Third Music Room where the academy’s host club is located. The host club consists of six male students who entertain their female “clients” with tea and sweets. Haruhi somehow knocks over an antique vase valued at $80,000 (8,000,000 Yen), and now has to pay back that debt through becoming the host club’s errand boy. (Unknown to them until later on in the series that Haruhi is actually a girl.)

Eventually Haruhi gets promoted to full-host status after the members of the club see that she’s a “natural” at being a host for the club, which she believes will help her pay down her debt much quicker. You can stream this title on Crunchyroll and of course FunimationNow!

Stick around for more filler post action and more additions to our Voice Actor Spotlight series coming up in just a bit! Next time on D&A Anime Blog! ๐Ÿ™‚

Filler Post: D&A’s Top 5 Types of Gamers!

If you haven’t noticed it yet, a lot of video games (mostly visual novels and some RPG’s) now have their own anime adaptations; such as Danganronpa, Steins Gate, and many others that you may be familiar with. Most of us that are in the anime fanbase today, found their way to it through the video game track. (Meaning that they found out about anime through video games, like Pokemon!) With so many genres of games out there, there’s bound to be various types of gamers that like said genres. With that in mind we’re going to give you our Top 5 list of the type of gamers you’ll find at different gamer conventions. Which one are you? Check our list and find out! ๐Ÿ˜‰

j3464

#5: The Casual Gamer

This type of gamer doesn’t game competitively nor tries to clear 100% of the entire game. He (or she) just likes to game mainly for entertainment purposes. The casual gamer is neutral, and possesses a bit of a laid-back persona. Almost a chilled gamer if you think about it…

original

#4: The Competitive Gamer

If an anime or video game con is having a SSB (Super Smash Bros.), Street Fighter, Mario Kart or even a Mortal Kombat tournament, you’d best believe that you’ll find this type of gamer here! Proceed with caution, as these gamers can get pretty turn’d up during heated tournament sessions. Their mission? to prove that they’re the top dog when it comes to video games.

vlcsnap-2016-06-06-23h23m39s047

#3: The Achiever

Action-adventure, First-person and Third-person Shooting games, are just a few of the gaming genres that this type of gamer will visit most frequently. This type of gamer is goal-oriented, has tactical gaming skills, and their weekly gaming sessions are almost the length of a Full-Time job! If you’re a video game tester who fits this title, then this IS your Full-Time job!

d5447732c1ac8780a392ddbec1190479--gamer-couple-a-guy-who

#2: The Button Masher

Have you ever seen a first-time gamer? Mashing buttons like there’s no tomorrow? Has no idea what they’re doing or even what the game’s about? Be honest, more than half of you have been this type of gamer during your childhood – unless you were blessed with gaming skills that would match even the most professional of gamers.

tumblr_mokhb72Y101squyp0o3_500

And finally #1: The Cheat Code Master

Infinite lives? Got it! Unlimited ammo? Got it! Hidden levels? You know it! If you’re a gamer, or you’re at least familiar with the gaming community, then this type of gamer is to noobs (or novice gamers), like a scout is to people trying to get basketball or football tickets. (And this is coming from a former Cheat Code Master too! Shh! Tell no one.)

If you have a gamer friend who is a cheat code master, then you’ve got the ultimate hook-up for life! Never again will you have to struggle on a level that can be beaten by pressing a few directional buttons in a particular sequence; Up, Up, Down, Down, L, R, Z! If you can guess what game that cheat code belongs to, then you deserve a cookie! ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, that’ll about do it on our end. No matter what type of gamer you are, we all have one thing in common – a passionate love for video games! Keep gaming! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Filler Post: The Top 10 Types of Girls You’ll See in Anime!

Each and every man (or “kidult”, which is an adult who has an inner child) on this earth has a certain type of girl they have the hots for. The same could be said for us, the otaku generation. Although there may be somebody for everybody, we often wonder what type of girl is right for us? Some of us may want a total hottie who loves PDA, while others may want someone who’s passionate about computers and gaming. Either way, there’s a Hinata for every Naruto, so here’s our top ten types of girls you’ll find in many of your favorite anime titles!

#10: The Free Spirit!

Many of us have seen this type of girl in some of our favorite anime titles. She’s the type that doesn’t let negative vibes from haters or other people who don’t like what she’s about, mess with her head and make her second guess herself. She can also be seen as an adventurer in some aspect, and would always lend a helping hand to those who may need it!

#9: The Childhood Friend!

There are a bunch of titles out there who have this type of girl in them. Normally we would name them all, but that would make this filler post way longer than it normally should be. The childhood friend knows the main male character like she’s his own sister, and gets jealous when he starts talking with other girls. Any anime title that takes place within a school setting is bound to have this type of girl around, so don’t be surprised if you see her in one of your favorite titles.

#8: The Class Rep (aka Student Council President)!

This type of girl can also be found in anime titles with school settings. Much like the head cheerleader of a cheering squad, the Class Rep is the leader of the whole class and has more-than-exceptional skills in various activities; such as sports and math. This type of girl would sit at the head of the class table, and be the one to unify the class as a whole, in order to overcome any adversity that comes their way.

hqdefaultayaka

#7: The Shy One!

We all remember Hinata back in the day, so don’t be surprised if you happen to come across this type of girl in one of your titles. What’s so cool about the shy type is that by the end of the series, they’re more open and more confident in themselves. There are some shy types that follow the main male (or female) character around only because they’re trying to build up the confidence to talk to them, which usually happens later on in the series.

#6: The “Notice Me Senpai”!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! If you’ve never seen this type of girl in an anime before, then you’re probably watching the wrong show! This kind of girl is hellbent on getting the guy that she has her eyes on, usually the main character or side male character, to notice her in any way possible! (Even as far as getting him to taste her “secret recipe” that got mixed in the dough – Yeah, I said it! XP)

4bf

#5: The Warrior!

This is the type of girl we all want on our team; be it in life or in your favorite MMORPG! Warrior girls are the type of girls who will love you, fight for you, encourage you, and help you become a better man (or woman)! Most of them are swordswomen while others have the heart of a warrior, either way, you can’t go wrong with having this type of girl by your side!

#4: The Rebel!

She’s like the free spirit type – only with a colorful amount of language and a loose cannon attitude. The rebel type is the one who plays by her own rules and doesn’t give a damn about what society has to say. Some of them can be a bit cold-hearted while others cause a trail of destruction wherever they go. Just ask the eldest sister of one Stocking Anarchy, she’ll tell you!

Panty_anarchy_render

#3: The Klutz!

Similar to the shy type, the klutz is the type of girl that always knocks over something or falls in an unconventional way by accident, or because there’s a certain boy she likes. You can usually find these types within a school setting of an anime series, and are mostly used for comic relief (in some titles).

#2: The Fangirl!

Not only can you spot these types of girls in anime, but also during anime conventions! Being an anime fan does have its perks and privileges, so if there’s a title that you’re hardcore about, you’d best believe there’s a group of fangirls who are crazy about it too! Beware however, because some fangirls may possess traits that mimic that of the “Notice Me Senpai” type of girls.

And Finally #1: The Best Girl!

This one we’re leaving entirely up to you! She may be a combination of the first three types we’ve mentioned, or even a little bit of the last nine. No matter how you slice it each and every one of us has a “Best Girl”, as for who that best girl might be, that is entirely up to you!

253095

Honorable Mentions:

#1: The Crazy One! #2: The Gamer! #3: The Spoiled Brat! #4: The Lolita
