Filler Post: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About D&A’s Founders; D.J. Lewis and A. Goldman!

This is a little ‘Fun Facts’ filler post about us! Even though we’re the proud owners and founders of this awesome anime blog that we’ve created, many of you guys may be wondering what we were doing before we started this blog. If you’re just the tiniest bit curious as to what we were up to before the rise of D&A, here are ten things you didn’t know about it’s creators/founders!

1. We Were Both Born in 1989!

We’re seven months apart from each other; meaning A. Goldman was born April 1989, and Yours Truly was born in November 1989. As 90’s kids both of us were into cartoons and eventually anime when we were younger, but you probably knew that, right? XP

2. We Did Character Voices!

Back in high school (about ten years ago) we created this audio-only ‘show’ featuring character voices that we came up with called The Chunky Willis Show. We did one season of about six episodes between 15-18 minutes each. We had characters such as Chunky Willis (voiced by D.J. Lewis), Howard Coleslaw (voiced by A. Goldman), Bob ‘Crispy Fish’ Jones (voiced by K. Elliott, our other friend), and various other characters. Don’t worry, we’ll post those episodes on our site (for laughs) next year.

3. We’re Both Have High-Functioning Autism (HFA)!

Honestly, we were a bit hesitant about this one, but now we’re in a point in our lives where we’re not ashamed to have autism – and claim it! We need to stop treating it like its a disease or even a disability, because we’re living proof that people with this neurological difference can have awesome lives just like everybody else!

4. We Both Like Gabriel Iglesias

We’re not the only ones! Most of the anime fans we’ve come across like him too! #FluffyRules ๐Ÿ™‚

gabriel-iglesias

5. Founding Member D.J. Lewis Produces Music!

We know, we broadcasted this news more times than we should have. But yes, he does indeed produce music – electronic music that is! If you’ve seen our two-year anniversary trailer, you’ll hear a little bit of the kind of electronic music that Lewis produces. He took a hiatus in 2014, but now he’s coming back as DJ/Producer Spindraulics!

6. Founding Member D.J. Lewis Hates Slugs!

Seriously! They creep me the eff out! >.<

7. We’re Knowledgeable When It Comes to Computers…Mostly!

Actually, A. Goldman has a bit more knowledge in this department than Yours Truly does. If you’re having any problems with your laptop slowing down, he’s your guy!

8. FUNimation Voice Actress Monica Rial Helped Promote An Original Track From D.J. Lewis Entitled “Samurai Angel”!

Between 2013 and 2014 there were a series of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt AMVs created by Lewis under the name NuTRACKK Lewis (aka D.J.L.); one in particular was a track named Samurai Angel, which was an AMV about Stocking Anarchy. The link was given as a gift to her dub voice actress, Monica Rial, via Twitter. Pretty soon it was promoted on her page for all of her fans to see, and for that we thank her so much!! ๐Ÿ™‚

9. Founding Member D.J. Lewis Created His Own Original Line Dance!

It hasn’t been trademarked yet, but the dance is called “The Big Daddy 2-Step”. Coming to a saloon near you, cowboy! ๐Ÿ˜‰

10. We’ve Been Friends For Over 15 Years!

From Middle School to now, A. Goldman and Yours Truly have been through it all! We both may be pushing the big 3-0, but that doesn’t mean we plan on stopping anytime soon!

So there you go! Ten things you didn’t know about the founders of this awesome blog! We’ve done a lot of cool things and met a lot of cool people before going on this journey, and we’re only just getting started! There’s more filler posts to come, so stay tuned! ๐Ÿ™‚

Spinning Wheels: 5 Reasons Why You Should DJ an Anime Convention!

Anime conventions in this day and age are a part of the otaku sub-culture in the U.S. and around the world. Although they may differ in size, activities, and tastes, there’s a little something for everybody who is attending. For manga enthusiasts there’s the Manga Library, and for convention goes (like us) there’s Q&A panels, workshops, and late night raves. Out of all the fans that go to various cons within North America and other countries, there’s only a handful of them who happen to be DJs, Producers, or both. If you happen to be a DJ/Producer who’s on the hunt for that first gig, and you also happen to be a bit of an anime fan, it wouldn’t hurt to take a shot on the decks at an anime con’s rave or afterparty (if you’re up for it). For this filler post we’ve got five reasons why DJing at an anime convention’s rave party is different – and why you should take a shot at it!

clubhama1

1. More Musical Freedom

At regular nightclubs (depending on which ones you go to) your musical selections are a little bit restricted to say Top 40, Hip-Hop, and a few other genres. We’re not saying that its a bad thing, but breaking out a Skrillex track in a Hip-Hop club or a country tune in an EDM club, won’t exactly land you a second appearance at said club. Anime Convention rave parties are different; sure they like a LOT of EDM and Video Game Remixes, but you can also get away with some Top 40 tracks – and you got to have the Wobble or the Cupid Shuffle somewhere in your arsenal!

2. People Actually Have Fun

You’ll hardly ever see people standing against the wall texting all night, or even the guys leaning against the wall while the girls dance. Everybody’s on the floor having a good time, no matter what the DJ throws on!

3. Better Social Atmosphere

No nightclub brawls! Pretty much everyone there is pretty nice. Watch out for creepers though.

4. Some Cons Actually Pay You

This one depends on the convention as well as what benefits DJs receive through their contracts. We know most mid/large cons offer their musical guests free weekend membership passes, hotel stay, food, and some form of payment for their services. (Although that’s between the DJ and the convention staff.)

5. You Get To Promote Yourself

Every single DJ who has spun at a con’s rave party, either had business cards or demo tapes and sometimes both! You should never spin at a club and not market yourself; that’s how you GET gigs! If the con goers what to find out who the DJ was that played that awesome set for their anime convention, make sure you give them a card with your website and social media handles.

So there you have it! If these five reasons won’t convince you to spin at an anime convention (if you’re a DJ/Producer or just a DJ), nothing will!

Filler Post: D&A’s Top 5 Anime Voice Actors! (The Female Edition!)

Whew! Here we are again guys n’ gals; with our female edition of our previous post that highlighted our Top 5 male anime voice actors. Just like the guys that fans love so much, there are some awesome gals that have made names for themselves in the voice acting business as well. So without further delay, here’s our Top 5 ladies behind the mic…

38453

Number 5: Stephanie Sheh

Coming in at number five on our Top 5 list, is the one an only Hyuga heiress herself; Stephanie Sheh. Many of us already know her as Naruto’s wife as well as Sailor Moon in the re-dub of the cult classic known as Sailor Moon Crystal. For any Fire Emblem fans out there (no matter what installment you’ve played), you may have heard Stephanie as the Dark Mage known as Tharja. From anime to video games Stephanie Sheh has made a name for herself in various titles that many of her fans known, and love her for.

MjM0Nzg@._V1_UY317_CR2,0,214,317_AL_

Number 4: Luci Christian

There are several handfuls of roles tied to her name, but one role fans may know her by, would be everyone’s favorite goddess in DanMachi – Hestia! Other roles include Asuna in Negima!, Medusa in Soul Eater, Makina Hoshimura in Corpse Princess, and more! She brings a lot of personality to any and every character she plays, so be sure to look out for her in future anime titles.

IMG_0236

Number 3: Alexis Tipton

Rosario+Vampire fans already know her as Moka Akashia, but Alexis has done so many more titles since then. You may have heard her in The Sacred Blacksmith, Sekirei, Shiki, and many others. You can also hear her voice in a few video games that you may (or may not) own, of course we’re not one to spoil which titles you might’ve heard her in. (That decision we leave up to you.)

MjM0Nzg@._V1_UY317_CR20,0,214,317_AL_

Number 2: Jamie Marchi

We’re pretty much gonna go ahead and throw these titles out there; Soul Eater, Shuffle!, Sekirei, My Hero Academia, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Shimonetta, Danganronpa: The Animation and Danganronpa 3. If you’ve seen any of these titles, then you already know which character(s) Jamie has voiced. Aside from voice acting, she’s also a writer and director for some of those shows as well as other series.

BnXkFtZTgwNzIwMjcyMTE@._V1_

Number 1: Monica Rial

One of the legendary ladies of the voice acting world, and voices the cuter half of the Anarchy Sisters (Panty & Stocking). You can also hear her in the same titles that her partner Jamie is in, in fact many fans call the two of them ‘Jamonica’ which we believe is a fusion of both of their names. Monica is also a writer for many of the shows she in, as well as made a live-action appearance in one title in particular. She is also one of the most prolific voice actresses in the world and also called ‘The Queen of Voices’. With almost (if not) 20 years worth of titles to her name; including video games, Monica Rial is truly one-of-a-kind.

That will do it for our Top 5 filler post as well as all of the posts of the week! Next week we’ll be back with brand new posts, and we’ll keep you updated on what’s next on our front. Until next time, stay cool! ๐Ÿ™‚

D&A Anime Blog: Updates, Cancellations, and What’s on the Horizon!

Hey guys n’ gals! We’re hoping that you all had a great 4th of July last night, and didn’t do anything too dangerous. So here we are halfway through 2018 (as hard as that is to believe), and it’s only a matter of time before our three-year anniversary comes up in January. We don’t know what we’re going to do yet for that celebration, but what we do have is a few updates on what’s going to be happening for the remainder of the year. Some of it’s good news, and some of its bad news, but at the end of the day, we want our fans to know how much we love them for all of the support that they’ve been giving us.

Spindraulics (WhiteLogo)

DDJ-1000_RB

During the creative process of what we wanted D&A Anime Blog to be, we wanted to have a few things that made us stood out from all the rest. One of the founding members of D&A, Donte’ Jamal Lewis, has been producing music between 2008-2014 through a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) known as MAGIX; great for Hip-Hop or Electronic Music Producers. He took a hiatus in Spring 2014 to take Music Production classes in college, now he’s prepared to take his newfound knowledge of Mixing, Mastering, Compression and Limiting, and use it to create new music.

With that being said, we’ll finally be able to purchase a DJ controller (the Pioneer DDJ-1000) for Lewis, as he takes on the name Spindraulics in celebration of unlocking this achievement! A new page containing both original music and DJ mixes from Spindraulics (Lewis) will be making its way to the blog January 2019!

Now for a little bit of bad news; we won’t be able to attend Anime Festival Orlando this year, so to our fans who live in Orlando, Florida who follow us on social media, we apologize that we won’t be able to make it this time. This however doesn’t mean that we won’t go to AFO in the future. As for our fan fiction menu (if you haven’t already heard the news), we’ll be removing the current title Sonic Beatdown: Danganronpa Silver, and replace it with Sonic Beatdown: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. We’ll keep you updated on when it will be making its way to the blog, and what the story will be about.

Next year we may be temporarily pulling back a bit on convention appearances (only going to about 2-3/year) in order to find new ways to market and advertise what we do (i.e. Reddit, Instagram, and more). This doesn’t mean that we love our fans any less, its just with the rising costs of reliable transportation these days, it’s kinda hard to manage appearances on an out-of-pocket budget. In spite of this we’ll be working on getting sponsorships and figuring out ways to sell our brand merchandise, and (possibly) open up a kickstarter page.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is our updates for today! More filler posts coming soon!

D&A Anime Blog: July Anime Cons (Part 1 of 2)!!

We may have a massive heatwave happening in our neck of the woods, but hopefully you guys will get the chance to cool down with these cool cons we’ve found while cruising the web. Tonight our anime convention locations are in the Southwest and Westbound regions of North America. If you ever get the chance to go to these conventions, feel free to send us some cosplay pictures if you would like them to be displayed on our Fan Cosplay Pics! ๐Ÿ™‚

D&A Anime Blog: End of June Updates & Announcements!

What? It’s already the end of June?! It’s true; there are only six months left in 2018, and as much as some of you guys n’ gals hate it, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be coming around the corner as well. Although you’ve heard it from us many times over the last 2.5 years, we appreciate all of the love and support that you’ve given us and the blog. We have over 13,000 views in our view count and have over 120 followers on our blog page, so to celebrate that accomplishment we’re announcing that we’ll be having our own Reddit page coming this Fall! It will have some links to our best filler posts from the blog, as well as a new topics that will contain a series of posts, that will be exclusive to our Reddit page. It will also be the new home for the “A Founder’s Thoughts with D.J. Lewis” filler post series.

Also on our update announcement list; we’ve decided to discontinue our fanfiction Sonic Beatdown: Danganronpa Silver, to make room for our new three-installment fanfiction crossover series known as the Sonic Beatdown Crossover Series! It will be a new two-year project that we’ll be working on between now, and Summer 2020. The titles of these installments goes as follows; Sonic Beatdown: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Sonic Beatdown: Danganronpa Forces, and Sonic Beatdown: Daten City.EXE. We’ll also be doing some live streaming segments in the near future, so we’ll keep you guys up to date on when and what time they’ll take place.

That’s all we’ve got for updates and announcements for now. We’ll see you guys next week with more awesome filler posts and cool new things to share with you!

Until then! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Filler Post: D&A’s Top 5 Japanese Music Artists!

If you’re an anime fan, then you’ve probably seen a lot of anime openings and know almost half of the words to the song – in Japanese. If you haven’t noticed by now, there’s a lot of fans (and we do mean a LOT) who love K-pop and J-pop. From virtual pop star Hatsune Miku to the all-too-familiar TM Revolution, fans can’t get enough of these awesome musical artists who hail from the land of the rising sun. Tonight we’re going to bring you our Top 5 Japanese Music Artists; who are bands, singers, groups, or DJs!

TeddyLoid

Number 5: TeddyLoid (Japanese DJ/Producer)

If you’ve ever heard of a little gem called Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, then you might’ve heard the transformation sequence song that’s tied to the show. TeddyLoid along with Taku Takahashi (who is a part of the Hip-Hop group “M-Flo”), produced the PSG Original Soundtrack as well as PSG: The Worst Album. He’s also done “Me!Me!Me!” along with several other albums and EPs. If you ever get the chance to go to one of his shows (either here in the U.S. or in Japan), you’ll be in for one epic time!

Pillowseditjpg

Number 4: The Pillows (Japanese Rock Band)

These guys are kind of a big deal now; especially with the one and only FLCL anime coming back with a second and third season (which you can see on Toonami). If you’ve familiar with this band, then you’ve probably heard the ending track of FLCL called “Shooting Star”. The Pillows have more tracks for the second and third seasons of the anime, plus other songs and albums as well.

lisa-crossing-field-splash

Number 3: LiSA (Japanese Singer-songwriter)

You might have heard her voice in a few songs from a few titles like Angel Beats! and Sword Art Online. Risa Oribe better known as ‘LiSA’ is a singer-songwriter from Seki, Gifu who is signed to Aniplex under Sony Music Artists. One of her hit songs “Crossing Field” can be heard on the well-known anime title Sword Art Online (SAO) as it’s opening. There are some anime conventions (like Anime Expo) where fans can see her perform live, so if you’ve never gotten the chance to do so, make it happen! ๐Ÿ˜‰

ca. 2005 --- Puffy AmiYumi --- Image by ยฉ Danielle Levitt/Corbis Outline

Number 2: Puffy AmiYumi (Band)

You’d have to go back to the early/mid 2000’s era of Cartoon Network if you’ve never heard of these girls before. Last we checked this band had it’s own cartoon show known as the Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi Show, and later on Teen Titans performing it’s main theme song. Although that era is long gone, these girls can still rock out loud on stage!

21587-tmrevolution-c3tm

Number 1: T.M. Revolution (Music Artist)

Anyone who knows Soul Eater has heard and sung the lyrics to the opening theme at least a thousand times or more. He’s been to and performed at numerous events and cons; especially at Baltimore/Washington’s Otakon. His full name is Takanori Nishikawa, but many of us know him of course as T.M. Revolution. To really get a sense of the type of energy he brings to a crowd, you would have to go to one of his live shows at an anime convention, or even a huge concert.

And there you have it guys n’ gals! That will do it for our Top 5 segment on our favorite Japanese music artists. We’re not through yet however, as we’ve got more exciting filler posts coming up later this week!

Stay gold, my friends! ๐Ÿ™‚

Filler Post: D&A’s Top 5 Anime Voice Actors: Male Edition!

When you’ve watched a good amount of anime as much as we have, you begin to get just a little bit curious of who might be the person or individual portraying the voice of one of your favorite characters. Now that we’re a little more seasoned as anime fans, we now have gained a newfound respect for the people (artists) that are behind the very characters we love so dearly. Although this filler post is dedicated to all of the great male anime voice actors out there, there are five in particular that we just simply had to highlight. Here is our Top 5 Male Anime Voice Actors!

DSC03891

Number 5: Chuck Huber

Whenever you hear his name, the first thought that should come to mind is Emperor Pilaf from Dragon Ball. He was also the Game Master in Sekirei as well as a bunch of other characters you may (or may not) be familiar with. We’ve had the opportunity to meet him personally at one of our cons last year, and let us just say; we ‘fan-girled’ hard! He’s a really cool guy when you meet him for the first time, so when you do, try not to pass out if you can help it.

DSC01053

Number 4: Vic Mignogna

We cannot even begin to imagine how many fangirls this VA has! Many of us know him as Broly from the DBZ movie; Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan, or even Edward Elric from FMA. As with Chuck we’ve gotten the chance to meet him twice, so we’re hoping that three times the charm!

48126

Number 3: J. Michael Tatum

Anybody that’s a fan of Black Butler knows who this guy is. You’ve heard him on Steins;Gate as well as many other shows, plus you’ve also seen him on CONfessionals with a lot of his other voice acting friends. He’s a pretty cool guy when you meet him for the first time, as long as you don’t call him ‘J. Michael Tater Tots’ that is. XP

kylemaxresdefault

Number 2: Kyle Herbert

“Who the hell do you think I am?!” is a quote that all of us are familiar with whenever this man’s name gets mentioned. You know him as Adult Gohan in DBZ as well as its narrator, plus you might have also seen him on the YouTube video known as Kyle Herbert is an A-Hole. (Don’t worry, it’s a lot funner than it sounds.)

stevemaxresdefault

Number 1: Steve Blum

This guy is a voice acting legend! From the 90’s all the way to now we’ve grown up hearing Steve’s voice from the Green Goblin on Spider Man, to Orochimaru from Naruto. (And T.O.M. from Toonami.) As one of the best in his field he continues to wow us at conventions as well as keep us entertained for years to come! (Seriously, he doesn’t look a day over 40 even though he’s in his 60’s.)

So there you have it for our Top 5 Anime Voice Actors! We’ve only met about four of the five (Kyle Herbert being the one we’ve never met) voice actors on this list, but we’re hoping that we get the chance to see these guys again at a con in the near future. Coming up we’ve got our Top 5 Female Anime Voice Actors on a filler post later this week, so don’t miss it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

D&A’s Crunchyroll Spotlight: Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls!

So here we are on the last week of June, and once again we’ve got another title from our good friends at Crunchyroll for you to check out! If you’re the kind of fan that likes samurai/ninja anime titles (and we’re sure most of you do), then you might like the one we have for you tonight. If you’ve seen the first Basilisk anime, then this is the follow-up to that known as Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls.

ninjamaxresdefault

So here’s the overview; in the Keicho era, the battle for succession manifested into a gruesome battle of ninja arts between the Koga and Iga clans. In a rain of flower pedals a man and woman who decided to live for love were separated once again, but not before Hattori Hanzo’s adopted son, Kyouhachirou, gave them live again before leaving two mementos behind. Koga Hachirou and Iga Hibiki are children born with a destiny of their own; with the former having his father’s eyes, while the latter having her own mother’s. Now that it’s the Kan’ei Era and the land is at peace, ninjas are disappearing into the shadows due to the reason that they are deemed ‘unnecessary’. Both the Koga and Iga clans ask a favor of Hachirou and Hibiki, in hopes of reinforcing their foundations.

You can catch this little number on Crunchyroll or FunimationNow! That’s all for now but there’s more filler posts coming up! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Filler Post: D&A’s Top 5 Anime Beach Episodes!

When it comes to the Summer, there’s everything from outdoor concerts and festivals, to anime and comic book conventions for us geeks and nerds. One thing that will always remain true when it comes to the world of anime, is the legendary “Beach Episode” found in every rom-com, slice-of-life, and harem title that’s ever been created! 1308963_Japanese_KeyArt-OfficialVideoImage_5d6cb5aa-5a6b-e711-8175-020165574d09

Number 5: Shuffle – Season 1 Episode 9: Survival Swimming at the Beach

If there anyone that knows how to kick off the first weekend of Summer, it has to be the cast of Shuffle! Rin and the girls head to the beach for some fun, but after some silly antics (thanks to Asa) Rin and Sia end up stranded offshore. What happens next you ask? you’ll have to watch the episode to find out!

1bc743b642433afb11e26b9f46b7abfc1279967865_full

Number 4: Bleach – Episode 228: Summer! Sea! Swimsuit Festival!!

Even though this is a lengthy series, Bleach does take a break from fighting Hallows and other nasties to have some fun in the sun – well sort of. Despite all of the fun they’re having, Ichigo and Co. discover that there’s a Hallow that’s been haunting the beach. Get ready for swimsuits, Soul Reapers, and Ichigo’s rant about how much he hates the heat.

Our-girls-In-swimsuits-Rawrh-school-rumble-1445681-500-348

Number 3: School of Rumble – Episode 12: Save Me at the Beach! Save Me, I’m Naked! Just Save Me For Real!

This beach episode has everything you’d expect; swimsuits, perverted spies, and one character practicing katas while in the buff. If this episode doesn’t get you hyped up for the Summer, nothing will!

Episode_12

Number 2: TTGL – Episode 12: Yoko, will you do me a Favor?

Stuck at the beach until your boat, ship, or yacht is finished fueling up? That was the case with Team Dai-Gurren; as they had to wait until modifications were done on the Dai-Gurren before completing their mission. While this happened they enjoyed a little fun in the sun – at Yoko’s expense of getting showed up in every competition by Nia.

FUN-PAS_S1_09FUN-PAS_S1_09-image0

Number 1: PASWG: Season 1 Episode 9A: If The Angels Wore Swimsuits

If there’s anyone who knows how to turn up for the Summer, it would be the fallen angels of Daten City! This giant ball of raunchiness and adult humor that is Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, has volleyball grudge matches, ghost fights, A South Park art shift, and twerking (yes, twerking). If you plan on watching a lot of anime this Summer, be sure to add this episode to your list!

That will do it for our Top 5 Anime Beach Episodes on this post! We’ll be back next week with some more awesome posts as well as other updates from our upcoming projects.

Until then, stay gold! ๐Ÿ˜‰
