A Founder’s Thoughts With D.J. Lewis! (February 10, 2020!)

Hey guys n’ gals! Welcome back to another installment of one of my ‘A Founder’s Thoughts’ posts, right here on D&A Anime Blog. So far we’ve gone about a good two months without any big snow storms (*knocking on wood*), as the temps are regulating to about the 40’s and 50’s. But enough about the weather, let’s talk about something that I wanted to get off my chest for quite awhile – since 2019 actually. All I can say about the matter is; no matter how you feel about it, or even how the other party made you felt about it, there are just some fights and arguments that aren’t even worth fighting. Now you’re probably wondering what I’m even referring to, right? Well it’s more along the lines of not dealing with toxic people or even toxic environments.

Honestly with all the stuff that’s going on nowadays, my generation (90’s kids/millennials) and Gen-Z find ourselves under a lot of stress and anxiety; be it from our jobs, our families, and even online communities. Although we face this lil’ demon from time to time, we’ve also found ways to cope with our anxiety. First off, just know that you’re not alone. You can only imagine how many others feel the same way you do, which is why its a good idea to start surrounding yourself with friends who will help lift you up when you’re down. Sometimes when I feel down in the dumps I watch a funny anime title, or even chat with some of you guys. Now that we’re in a new decade, it’s high time to distant yourself (or shut yourself off) from people or groups that bring you anxiety through their toxic nature. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, individuals like that will never admit they’ve did anything wrong or even confess that they’ve verbally made someone uncomfortable.

When it comes to topics like this you’ll never hear me rant and rave about it, but explain how I feel on the matter and slowly but surely take the necessary steps to compose myself, and move on from the matter. Now that I think about it, having this blog is also helpful for me so that I can side blog about my thoughts. Well, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, time for us to grab 2020 by the horns and ride til’ we can’t no more!

Cancel toxic culture, and surround yourself with awesome people!

Until next post, stay nerdy my friends! ๐Ÿ˜‰

3 Things About Me

  1. Aside from being a fan of anime and manga, I love producing Hip-Hop and Electronic music. (And I plan on being a DJ/Producer.)
  2. My favorite comedian is Gabriel Iglesias.
  3. I love yorkies! They’re my favorite dog breed! ๐Ÿ™‚

Lesley’s Anime and Manga Blog Questions

Is there a particular style of music thatโ€™s your favorite?

That’s a good question. Back in high school I pretty much liked Hip-Hop and R&B, but after I went to my first rave party at an anime convention, I’m pretty much electronic music all the way – although I like all types pretty much.

What other interests do you have besides anime and/or manga?

Producing my own original music and traveling.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Oh boy, I think I’ve asked myself this question 10 years ago. (*chuckles*) Well, hopefully running our own anime convention, being married, still DJing, and still enjoying watching anime and reading manga.

If you could make just one wish, what would it be and why?

Aw, man. Just one? I’d say if it can only be one wish, make it world peace. There’s a lot of bad stuff going on worldwide; from the Coronavirus to the upheaval in the Middle East. So if I can only have one wish, it would be world peace.

If you could go on a date with an anime character, who would it be and why?

Ooh, man! I’ve been waiting to answer this one. There’s only one waifu I wanna take out on a date, and her name is Stocking Anarchy! Why? She’s cute, fine as hell, and if we’re attacked by a ghost, she’ll slash it to pieces! Plus she has a sweet tooth and I kinda do too. Also, not to mention that she more level-headed than her sister and easier to talk to. (I’m still not buying the fact that she’s a demon – though that won’t change how I feel about her if it’s somehow true.)

A Founder’s Thought’s with D.J. Lewis! (January 26, 2020)

Hey guys, this is D.J. Lewis here representing one-half of D&A Anime Blog! It’s been awhile since I’ve done this little personal segment of mine, and although A. Goldman and I talk about anime, manga, classic gaming reviews and more on our blog, we want to give you guys (the fans) a behind-the-scenes look and what we do outside of the blog.

For instance, this year I plan on taking the next step in my journey to becoming a DJ/Producer. So far I’ve already got my brand name, as well as my first upcoming collaborative music project with musical artist KING SHABAZZ. I actually met him back at Anime USA 2018 and I gotta say, he’s a really cool dude. If you haven’t heard his music you can check him out right here.

Aside from that a lot has changed for me over the last decade or so; like say me turning 30 last November, as well as going through two different job changes and trying to save up to hopefully move out in Summer or Fall 2021. It’s also really awesome that after four years of running the blog with my best friend and partner of 17 years, that things are really starting to go in our favor. Honestly, I never would have even thought about having social media accounts had it not been for the blog, because ten years ago, I sort of didn’t like Facebook or Twitter. I know it doesn’t seem like it but it’s true.

I feel like somewhere in the near future I’m going to write my own book about my life experiences with being on the Autism Spectrum, my passion for music production and anime, and life goals in general. Ten years ago I thought I had it all figured out; I’d graduate college with my Associates Degree, get a job in Information Technology, Post Production or even Tech Support. Sadly it didn’t happen that way, however after going through a handful of retail jobs (each more depressing than the last), it wasn’t until 2018 that I finally figured out what I wanted to do – personally; aside from running this awesome blog with my friend.

For a lot of people this year, 2020 is the starting year for a brand new decade of finding yourself, reinventing yourself, re-imagining possibilities, and leaving old baggage behind. This decade I want to travel more; not just to more cons although that’s part of it, but to experience new things and try new stuff that I’ve never gotten the chance to try before. (Like going to LA for the first time.) Hopefully before this decade is over I’ll find love in my life, and I know she’ll be awesome whoever she may be. As far as where I want to go with DJing (once I get my hands on a controller), I’m just gonna go with the flow – wherever the flow takes me.

That’s my thoughts as a founding member of D&A Anime Blog for now, until next time my friends, stay nerdy! ๐Ÿ˜‰

D&A Anime Blog: Animore 2020 Post-Con Recap!

Hey guys! We’ve now just returned from our first anime convention of 2020; right in our own backyard. This is Animore’s 5th year this year, so from the bottom of our hearts we want to congratulate them on their 5-year anniversary! Speaking of which this weekend was our 4-year anniversary, so it’s hard to believe that this whole journey started out during the grand snow storm of 2016. From that point on we’ve transformed from a cosplay photo website to what you see and read before you today. With all that out of the way, here’s our 2020 recap of this year’s Animore anime convention!

Sadly this year we didn’t get a whole lot of cosplay pictures as we’d like, but nevertheless we had an awesome time! We returned as guests once again, and the attendance numbers this year were a little bit higher than last year’s – which is awesome because we’ve made some new friends. Other than us as guests there were some awesome cosplay presenters and voice actors; including returning voice actress Felecia Angelle, who you might have heard in titles like Danganronpa, High School DxD, Dr. Stone, and so much more! We’ve also had a few card and video game tournaments as well; including Smash Bros. Ultimate, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Mario Kart.

Since it’s the 100th anniversary of the Roaring 20’s, we also had a “Great Gatsby” style formal dance with Electro Swing music, followed by the non-rave dance with DJ favorites Powerline, GrooveCube, and Confetti The First. This year also marks the last year that Animore will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Baltimore, and in 2021 it will make its move to the Baltimore Renaissance right across the street from the Hyatt. So as an overall grade, we give our backyard anime convention an 8 / 10 (only because our other favorite voice actor Anthony Bowling couldn’t make it T.T), and of course for our 5th anniversary in January 2021, we will be returning to our home base con in full nerdy glory! ๐Ÿ™‚

That will do it for our recap, so until next post, stay nerdy my friends! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Sunshine Blogger Award!

sunshine-blogger

Wow, what an honor! So like we mentioned the other day, we’ve been nominated by In Search of Number Nine for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Never had we thought in the three (going on four) years we’ve been running this anime blog of ours would we be nominated for our efforts, but in reality, we have our fans and fellow anibloggers to thank. Of course there are some rules we have to follow before we go any further, so here they are:

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you in your post and link it back to them.
  2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write 11 new questions for them.
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post of blog.

Now with all that settled, let’s do this!

What was the first time you cried during an anime, and why?

I have yet to find an anime title that would make me shed a tear, not to say that I don’t have emotions. However there is one exception; that “one” scene from Brotherhood…

…I should probably move on to the next question before I start crying. T.T

What is your favorite series that you will never watch again and why?

Negima! I used to be really into it ten years ago, but I’ve kinda outgrown the show a little bit. That’s not to say that I’ll never watch it again, but there’s so many titles and so little time.

What is your favorite series that you know is terrible, but you still love it. Why do you love it?

Girls Bravo. I wouldn’t say it’s totally terrible, but a small part of me still loves it due to the fact that I’m a sucker for slap-stick romantic comedy.

What is your favorite blog post that you havenโ€™t written yet? Why havenโ€™t you?

I don’t know…because I haven’t written it yet! XP

What blogger do you secretly wish you could be more like. What do you admire about them?

Wow, this one a tough one, because there’s a lot of bloggers I admire – most of them follow our blog. I guess I would say Irina from I Drink and Watch Animeย because of her no-holds-barred approach to anime and video games in general. We know we like to play in the “grey area” with our posts and approach, but there are some days where we secretly want to be like her. (Much luv, sis!) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Is there an anime where you think one change would fix it? What anime and what change?

Yes there is! Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. C’mon guys! The whole “Stocking is a Demon” debate drove me nuts after the show ended, I’d throw that out but keep the scene where Panty, Stocking, Brief, Garterbelt, and Chuck return to the church, only to find the black-winged fallen one known as Lucifer and his army of black-winged angels, who have now taken over the church and made it their HQ. He transports them to a parallel world he created and tells them to retrieve the seven scrolls from the seven bosses, or he’ll unleash Armageddon. Lucifer would also has a ghost form – and he’s Panty and Stocking’s older brother.

If you crashed on a desert island, what three people would you want to send you anime? And what anime would it be?

My partner of the blog, A. Goldman, Matt (from Matt’s Blog), and my other friend Josh. As for the anime, Danganronpa 3, Dr. Stone, Danmachi (seasons 1 & 2), Panty & Stocking of course, and Chivalry of a Failed Knight.

Is there a series you wish you could buy on DVD/Blu-Ray? What series would it be?

Yes! Ghost Stories!

What anime creator would you want to talk to, and what series would you like to talk about?

Akira Toriyama, and of course we ALL know what series I wanna talk about! ๐Ÿ˜‰

What anime should I watch that I probably havenโ€™t from the last five years?

The Sacred Blacksmith. Yet another series that didn’t get much fanfare.

What is your favorite fruit?

I don’t really have a favorite fruit in general, but if it’s a strawberry-orange smoothie then I’ll take that.

And now for the 11 questions (you don’t have to worry about rules for them):

  1. What was your very first anime?
  2. When was the first time you’ve gone to an anime convention? What year?
  3. Do you have an anime crush? (Waifu or Husbando)
  4. What anime series do you wish got a second season?
  5. What got you into blogging?
  6. Do you have a favorite anime creator or director that you admire?
  7. What was the first anime you dropped, and why?
  8. Have you ever cosplayed at a convention before?
  9. What’s your favorite anime opening and ending?
  10. What anime titles are you looking forward to next year?
  11. Why do you love anime?

There’s a lot of awesome people I’d nominate, and some of which have nominated us! So here’s my 11 nominees:

We can’t thank you guys enough for all of your love and support! Share this post with any and every blogger you know and love. Until next post, stay nerdy! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Blog Burnout: Not Letting What You Love Turn into Something You Hate!

As a blogger, you find yourself faced with the many trials and struggles that come along with blogging; setting deadlines, consistency, figuring out what content to write about, or even the fact if its relevant or not. Blogging is a 24-hour job. Even when we’re sleeping the internet is always running – ALWAYS! Whatever topic you find yourself writing about you always have to make sure that you stay up to date with whatever the topic is. For us and maybe a few of you out there, it’s anime. With the level of popularity that anime is at now than it was 20 years ago, there is always something to write about. Despite this being the case on our end, we’ve found ourselves suffering from one of the negative aspects of blogging. We have given it the term ‘Blog Burnout’!

e62e842b2b732813c46e44eb6e647bed
We’ve all suffered from this at some point…

Blog Burnout is one of those moments where you find yourself scrambling for content to write about and post; so much so that mental stress kicks in, and you decide to procrastinate more often than you should. Add in the factor that life happens at the drop of a dime and before you know it, it’s been a week since your last post (then small doses of depression kick in). Blog burnout is at its worst when combined with writer’s block, because now your mind is stuck at a dead end and you feel like there’s no way out.

That’s what happened to us in the month of May.

When you find something that you’re passionate about, you do it because it’s something that you love to do. Even if you don’t make a dime off of it you do it because it makes you happy, and quiet as it’s kept it’ll even make some of the people you’re sharing it with happy. That’s one of the reasons why we love blogging about anime; because we find so many cool people who love the same things as we do, and they’re as passionate about what they do and like as we are. So what if people make fun of you for it, its the things you love that makes you, you! As for how to curb blog burnout, here’s some tips:

1. Plan out your posts in advance!

Making a rough draft of what you’re going to write about will save you some time in the long run. Make a spreadsheet on what type of content and topics you’re going to write about, and mark down the days that the posts are going to go out. You can even schedule when the posts are going to hit and even set a time, that way you can take care of whatever ‘adult’ responsibilities you have, and still run your blog.

2. Get plenty of sleep!

This one may be a challenge for many bloggers, as we may find ourselves up past midnight blogging about our topic(s) of choice because that’s the only time where all is quiet with no responsibilities in sight. If you’re a millennial (and most of us who blog are) then you’re probably in your 30’s or probably close to them. You haven’t hit your MLC (Mid-Life Crisis) yet but at the same time you don’t have the same sleep pattern as you did in your teens and 20’s. To make sure you’re at 100% when blogging, it’s a good idea to get plenty of sleep.

3. Collab with somebody on a few posts!

Sometimes its a good idea to find ways to expand your topic of interest to write about, and even though we can do it on our own most of the time, collaborating on a post with a fellow blogger may open up the door to bigger projects and ideas down the road.

Hopefully this post will help any of you who have come up against this at some point and time in your lives. Until our next one, keep your passion alive, and stay nerdy! ๐Ÿ™‚

Long Time No See…

Hey, guys. It’s been two weeks since our last post but we’re so grateful that while we’ve been ‘away’, you still sent us your love and support for the blog, and we can’t thank you (the fans) enough for that. Since switching our main site to ‘Premium’ we’ve decided to do things a little bit different with our posting schedule. We’re going back to using our “Auto Post” system in order to maintain consistency with our content. In order for it to work effectively, we’ve decided to work on and create our posts this month and have them scheduled to hit next month, so that means there won’t be any new current posts this month. Also, we’ll be doing a lot of awesome things over the summer, so we’ll keep you up to date on what new things are coming to the blog as well as new features for the fans to enjoy. Until next month you can check out our past posts and videos, as well as keep up with developments on our social media pages. We thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts and until next post, stay nerdy! ๐Ÿ™‚

D&A Anime Blog: Updates & Changes!

Welcome back! Earlier in March we mentioned that we’ll be doing some updates and renovations for the blog, as we’ve been looking into more ways that we can expand our platform as well as our features. With that comes the closing down of a few features on the blog that were great in theory, but didn’t exactly give us the results that we were hoping for. So if you want to know what in store for D&A for the rest of the year (and even down the road), here’s what’s happening:

We’re Closing Down Our Fanfiction Feature

For this feature its not that we’ve lost interest in doing fanfiction, its just that we don’t have as much time to make it as often as we used to. With so many things on our plate both on and offline, we’ve decided that it would be best to shut down this feature of the blog to focus on creating more original content and posts.

Our Music Section Will Be On Our Sidebar

One of the coolest ideas we had for the blog is to implement a feature that will allow our fans to check out some originally produced Hip-Hop/Electronic music. For our blog renovation project we’ve decided that this upcoming feature will be on our sidebar instead of on its own page. It will be in playlist format so fans can pick what tracks they want to hear.

We’re Upgrading Our Plan To Premium

This will be the final phase of our blog renovation project, as this will allow us to give our fans an ‘out-of-the-box’ anime blog experience. We’re hoping to one day have a Shop/Merch page where fans can buy official D&A Anime Blog T-shirts and other merch, and with this upgrade we’ll be one step closer to making that happen.

So far that’s all we’ve got planned for the second quarter of 2019, but rest assured we’re only just getting started! There’s more new features we hope to execute on the blog (some even include a future Twitch channel), as we continue to strive to become one of the best two-man operated anime blogs out there. As always we wanna thank our fans for all of the love and support that we’ve received on the blog, social media, as well as at many of the cons we’ve gone to. Stay nerdy, my friends! ๐Ÿ™‚

What. A. Month…

As bloggers you find yourself trying to figure out what your next post or topic of discussion will be, while also trying to maintain some level of consistency. This month has been met with a mixture of writer’s block, depression, and work overload. In spite of that however, there are a few ideas that we have hidden away in the vault that we hope to execute later on this year. We’ll be sure to continue to keep you updated on any new things that we decide to do, and as always, keep making D&A a part of you…and we’ll make you a part of us! ๐Ÿ™‚

(More posts coming in March!)
