D&A’s Throwback Thursday: Arrow Emblem: Hawk of the Grand Prix!

Welcome back to another Thursday afternoon on this Throwback Thursday! Last week we took a trip to the 80’s world of anime, but now we’re gonna slide back towards the 70’s era; or in this case, the Speed Racer era! Back in the early days of Japanimation, genres like sci-fi and mecha were all the rage, at the same time there were a few sports titles as well – this being one of them. For our Throwback Thursday pick we give you Arrow Emblem: Hawk of the Grand Prix!

If you haven’t seen the show, here’s the premise of the story:

Takaya Todoroki dreams of becoming an F1 racer, so he begins to put all of his energy into winning a beginners heat in stock car racing. Everything seemed to be going great until he slips on oil while in the lead due to a loss of focus and has an accident. While in the hospital Todoroki begins to lose his confidence and swears to never race again, that is until a masked racer appears by his bedside and reveals himself to be the world-famous race car driver Nick. He encourages Takaya to dust himself off and try a new prototype. After making a full recovery Takaya becomes a member of “Katori Motors” in hopes of becoming the F1 champion using a car design that he built.

If you’re on the lookout for a classic racing story, then be sure to check this series out! That will do it for our Throwback Thursday post, but not to worry, there’s more content on the way! Until next post, stay nerdy! 😉
